    Marble And Coir | Hipcouch

The site is located in the heart of Malabar Hill, surrounded by these buildings from the 60s and 70s which was just the beginning of modern architecture in India. The house was initially designed by a designer which dated back 20-25 years with this great Carrara marble flooring. So, keeping that as an inspiration and the architecture around the building, the house was designed to resonate with the nuances of that early era of the 60s and 70s while keeping it modern at the same time.

Shades Of White | Essajees Atelier

Originally, the apartment had five bedrooms, which were converted to three spacious rooms. Sham created a massive main suite, a home office, and a guest bedroom with a large living area and a lovely kitchen and pantry. “We made a lot of changes to the layout. Turning these really tiny rooms into larger layouts and razing everything to the ground and making it fresh has been extremely gratifying for me,” the designer says.

Nature Inspired Wallpaper | Design by SSJ

This was the hybrid brief that was presented to Jayasinha, when they handed over their 1,200-square-foot 3-BHK apartment in upscale Pali Hill, Mumbai, to her. “So while we endeavoured towards the quintessential ‘Scandi’ vibe, we weaved in a few elements from different design styles,” she says. For instance, the muted neutral palette is pleasantly interrupted by a dark grey-blue in one instance and a bespoke nature-inspired wallpaper in another. “Yet, when you walk around the house from one room to the next, it all blends well together,” smiles the designer.

Scandinavian Design is elegant and functional at the same time. It expresses its elegance through warm and simple tones with a fresh aesthetic to create cosy interiors. In order to achieve Scandinavian Design in the Indian context, one must make use of handmade furniture and decor. Light wooden tones and rattan are great ways to contextualise Scandinavian Design. At the same time, indoor plants also contribute to creating a cosy Scandinavian atmosphere. It is also worth noting that the categorization of these inspiring Scandinavian Design ideas is not in chronological order of the best designs. It is a potpourri of beautiful spaces that offer unique perspectives. However, the main challenge of Scandinavian Design is that it may not fit into many people’s budgets. What can architects and interior designers do to make Scandinavian Design cost-effective?
