  • Under the Arches Is A Retail Experience Centre Designed For A Lights And Switches Brand | Palak Ladhani Design Studio

Under the Arches is a 465 sq. ft. lighting and switch retail experience centre that offers more than a traditional showroom. It is a thoughtfully designed space that invites visitors into a journey of light, form, and feeling, where products are not simply displayed, but experienced in real time and in real life settings. The design is built around one key idea: light is not just about illumination, it has the power to influence mood, define spaces, and bring materials to life.

    Soft & Flowing Forms

Taking cues from the timeless architecture of Santorini, the space draws on the calm elegance of soft arches, neutral hues, and flowing forms. These references are not literal, but reimagined through a minimal, contemporary lens that feels both fresh and grounded. The arch, as a repeated element, becomes a quiet but powerful motif, guiding movement, framing views, and lending the space a sense of rhythm and continuity.

    Bright Spaces

As visitors step inside, the journey begins along a display wall where light becomes a medium of transformation. A series of recessed niches, each lit differently, demonstrate how subtle shifts in colour temperature and brightness can dramatically affect how we perceive shape, surface, and texture. White sculptural objects are used here not just as placeholders, but as tools to showcase the light’s full potential, offering a hands-on, intuitive understanding of its effects.

    Central Installation

A central installation featuring a sweeping illuminated arch celebrates the flexibility of the brand’s signature flexi light. More than just a product demo, it becomes a sculptural highlight within the space, drawing attention while echoing the showroom’s broader language of curves and fluidity.

Nearby, a textured feature wall with soft wave like contours interacts with concealed lighting to create depth and movement. Here, light is not just functional, it is atmospheric, adding richness and subtle drama to the space.

    Living Experiences

On one side, the design of this retail experience shifts into a fully styled bedroom mockup. Designed to feel intimate and familiar, this area gives visitors a chance to see how lighting and switches perform in a realistic setting, complete with layered textiles, drapery, warm accents, and natural elements.

It is an inviting pause point, where the products are seamlessly integrated into the environment rather than placed on display. The experience is tactile and personal, encouraging users to imagine how these elements could exist in their own homes.

    Office Space

Next to the bedroom, a collaborative corner offers space for architects, interior designers, and lighting professionals to come together. A large central table provides room for conversation and ideation. It is supported by a dry pantry that subtly adds function without distracting from the setting.

The materials throughout remain soft and restrained, allowing the lighting to take centre stage without overwhelming the senses.

    Conclusion

Under the Arches reimagines the showroom as a lived in retail experience, inviting, tactile, and thoughtfully lit. It allows visitors to connect with light not just as a product, but as an integral part of how a space feels, functions, and flows.
