Sharon Day Care in Salem is a thoughtful transformation project where functionality, child-centric ergonomics, and emotional comfort come together to create a nurturing environment for young learners. From the outset, the design vision was clear: to convert an existing space into a vibrant, safe, and engaging day care that feels warm and welcoming the moment a child step’s inside. The requirement called for a soft, playful, and safety-focused setting – one that supports both learning and comfort through every detail.
This Day Care Is A Thoughtful Transformation Where Functionality, Ergonomics, And Emotional Comfort Come Together | January Designs
Designing a space for children requires a layered approach that goes beyond aesthetics. It involves understanding how young minds explore, move, and interact with their surroundings. Every corner of Sharon Day Care was planned considering visual stimulation, safe circulation, height ergonomics, and functional usability.
The original structure presented several challenges existing flooring, uneven lighting, and proportions that lacked child suitability. Rather than pursuing an extensive renovation, the design team retained the existing flooring to optimize the budget and focused resources on elements that directly impact a child’s experience.
The shift began with the walls. Neutral shades formed a calm backdrop, enhanced with hand-crafted mural illustrations. These murals breathe life into the space without overstimulating young minds. Each mural act’s as a gentle storytelling canvas featuring shapes, nature motifs, and friendly elements that help children feel grounded, comfortable, and curious.
For a day care environment, zoning determines how smoothly children interact with their surroundings. The layout was thoughtfully planned to balance openness with purposeful segmentation.
Main Activity Zone: A bright, open space benefiting from natural light and equipped with child-safe, ergonomic furniture.
Reading Nook: A cosy corner with low-height shelves and inviting colours.
Play and Interaction Area: Sensory elements, murals, plants, and soft toys encourage engagement.
Nap Space: A calm, subdued zone designed for rest and relaxation.
Safety forms the foundation of this project. Every material, finish, and furniture selection is based on durability, comfort, and child interaction. Rounded-edge ergonomic furniture, non-toxic paints, soft washable fabrics, and indoor plants all contribute to a safe and nurturing space.
Children respond strongly to colour, but excessive brightness can overstimulate. Understanding this, the palette blends neutrals with strategic pops of pastels, while murals serve as visual anchors that guide movement and curiosity.
An important achievement lies in optimizing resources intelligently. By retaining the existing flooring and directing investment toward impactful elements like furniture, murals, and safety features, the project achieves both visual appeal and cost efficiency.
Sharon Day Care today stands as an uplifting, enriching environment carefully curated for young children. Every detail from colour choices to textures and spatial flow supports learning, creativity, and emotional comfort. The transformation reflects January Designs’ commitment to designing spaces with empathy, practicality, and purpose.
