Editor’s Note: Some homes reveal their character slowly, through details that invite you to look a little closer. This Mumbai apartment brings together marble, veneer, textured plaster, mother of pearl, stone, and fabric to create a home that feels luxurious yet deeply personal. An artificial skylight transforms the entrance, while layered living spaces balance graphic details with warm, comfortable furnishings. A handcrafted sandstone mandir adds a quiet connection to Indian craft, while each bedroom reflects the individuality of its occupants. Across the home, thoughtful solutions conceal everyday functions without compromising the design. From the shimmer of mother of pearl to the warmth of wood and the texture of plaster, every material adds another layer to the experience, creating a home where luxury is discovered through craftsmanship, comfort, and detail. ~ Yashika Bajaniya
The Mumbai apartment, Evara, belongs to the latter category. It reveals itself slowly through texture, material, and unexpected details. The home explores contrasts, craftsmanship, and tactile richness. It brings together marble, veneer, textured plaster, mother of pearl, semi-precious stone, and fabric in a considered and personal way.
The result is a home that feels unmistakably luxurious, yet never overly formal. Each room has its own character. At the same time, the spaces flow effortlessly into one another and create a cohesive design language. The design celebrates materiality and craftsmanship throughout. This balance between visual drama and everyday comfort makes Evara a compelling example of luxury home interiors in Mumbai.

The entrance foyer, originally deprived of natural light, could easily have become a forgettable transitional space. Instead, it has been transformed into one of the home’s most intriguing moments.
A cleverly integrated artificial skylight—or sunroof lighting system—creates the illusion of daylight pouring in from above. The effect is remarkably convincing. As you step inside, a skylight naturally illuminates the space and immediately creates a sense of curiosity and wonder. The detail makes guests pause and look up. Many even ask, “Is that actually a skylight?” It turns the entrance into an instant conversation starter.
Underfoot, beige marble creates a warm and understated foundation. A striking geometric inlay in black and white marble adds a graphic touch without overwhelming the space. Rich veneer panelling wraps the walls and discreetly conceals a service duct door and essential storage. Here, craftsmanship makes the functionality almost disappear.
The shoe cabinet takes a more expressive approach. Its deep wine-red PU finish and louvered shutters add rhythm, shadow, and texture. The design transforms an everyday storage unit into a sculptural statement. A custom-made Shreenathji painting completes the composition and settles naturally into the foyer’s palette and aesthetics. The result is an entrance that feels layered and deeply intentional. It creates an understated prelude to the design story that unfolds beyond.
The living room is where the home’s material palette begins to unfold in greater detail. At its centre, the television unit combines the cool sophistication of marble with the warmth of veneer. A beautifully curved wall with a tactile textured finish forms its backdrop.
The team divided the long wall behind the sofa into smaller, equal sections. This creates a sense of rhythm and brings scale and proportion to the expansive surface. Within these panels, intricate wall mouldings meet a sophisticated combination of black-and-white mosaic and delicate mother-of-pearl inlay.
The contrast is subtle but captivating. The mosaic introduces depth and graphic definition, while the mother of pearl catches the light with a soft, almost liquid shimmer. It is a detail that rewards closer attention—one that may appear understated from across the room but reveals its richness as you move closer.
A pair of subtly printed armchairs and a generous beige fabric sofa soften the harder surfaces, creating a space that feels wonderfully inviting. The room is designed to be lived in, not merely admired. It creates a setting for long evenings, animated conversations, family laughter, and comfortable silences. These moments come naturally from feeling completely at home.
If the living room celebrates layered textures, the dining area brings an element of surprise.
At first glance, the six-seater dining table appears familiar in scale and form. But the tabletop quickly reveals itself to be anything but ordinary. Instead of the expected marble, wood or glass, it features a bespoke TSBR paint finish with a dramatic geometric pattern. The result is highly individual—a custom surface that feels almost like a piece of contemporary art and certainly not something one encounters in every other home.
The dining corner features a crockery unit finished in semi-precious stone. Rich veneer panelling forms its backdrop. The combination of stone and wood creates a beautiful tension between the organic and the crafted. It gives this everyday space a distinct sense of character.
The design reflects the home’s larger philosophy. Luxury does not come simply from expensive materials. It comes from the thoughtfulness with which the materials come together.
Tucked neatly at the end of this corridor is the home’s mandir. Private yet accessible, it feels connected to the rest of the apartment while offering a quiet moment of pause and reflection.
The custom-built mandir, crafted in sandstone, draws inspiration from the delicate visual language of Pichwai art. Its design is an ode to the extraordinary craftsmanship found in India’s temple architecture, translated into a contemporary residential setting.
The beauty lies in the details: the interplay of different stones, the subtle shifts in colour, the variations in texture and the way light settles across each surface. Nothing feels overly polished or uniform. Instead, the natural character of the materials is allowed to speak.
Standing here, one can almost feel the coolness of the stone beneath one’s fingertips and sense the craftsmanship embedded in every surface. It is a space that engages more than just the eye—a sensory experience that brings together art, architecture, devotion and materiality.
One of the most ingenious interventions in the apartment is perhaps the corridor leading towards the bedrooms. Rather than treating it as a mere passageway, the design transforms the space into a highly functional utility corridor. It quietly performs several roles while maintaining the visual calm of the home.
Near the dining area, a standalone pedestal basin sits against a textured wall finish. It creates an elegant handwash station that feels almost like a decorative vignette. Just beyond it, the team stacks the washing machine and dryer vertically to make efficient use of the available footprint.
The design keeps the machinery visually concealed. A sliding wooden louvered door hides the appliances during the day and preserves the clean lines of the corridor. As evening arrives, the same door slides across to conceal the mandir instead.
This solution creates a beautifully choreographed space. A single architectural element shifts its purpose throughout the day and responds to the changing needs of the home.
The daughters’ bedrooms were designed with an understanding that luxury is also about individuality. Rather than imposing a singular aesthetic across both spaces, each room reflects the distinct personality of its occupant.
The elder daughter’s bedroom is romantic and theatrical in the most elegant sense. A four-poster bed, finished in veneer, becomes the centrepiece of the room, enveloped by delicate sheer curtains that soften its architectural presence.
Behind it, a chunky Venetian-style plaster texture creates a dramatic backdrop. Its substantial, tactile surface adds a sense of depth and age, contrasting beautifully with the lightness of the sheer fabric. The result is a bedroom that feels intimate, layered and quietly glamorous.
The younger daughter’s bedroom takes a gentler approach. More minimal and mellow in spirit, the room combines fabric-clad dressing storage with a geometric padded fabric detail above the headboard. The tactile softness of the fabric brings warmth to the space, while a Renaissance-inspired textured ceiling adds an unexpected layer of visual interest overhead.
The two bedrooms may speak different design languages, but both share the same underlying philosophy: thoughtful detailing, tactile materials and a strong sense of personality.
The master bedroom presented a different kind of challenge. Air-conditioning lines and fire sprinkler pipes ran extensively through the space, creating a technical puzzle that needed to be resolved without compromising either the aesthetics or the precious ceiling height.
The solution was both clever and visually refined. An inclined drop-edge detail was introduced around the perimeter of the room, neatly accommodating the technical services while creating an architectural frame for the ceiling. Finished in a sophisticated striped wallpaper, the peripheral edge adds pattern and texture without making the ceiling feel heavy.
The central portion of the ceiling is pushed upwards and clad in veneer, creating a sense of openness and visual relief. This contrast between the patterned periphery and the warmth of the central wood creates a beautifully composed ceilingscape.
Anchoring the room is a customised CNC-cut bed-back panel finished in textured paint. Its intricate detailing adds depth and sophistication, completing a bedroom that feels elegant without ever becoming ostentatious.
What makes this apartment so memorable is not any single material or design gesture, but the way everything works together. The cool touch of marble, the warmth of veneer, the soft shimmer of mother of pearl, the grain of natural stone, the softness of fabric and the tactile irregularity of textured plaster create a home that is experienced as much through touch and atmosphere as through sight.
For those seeking premium home interiors in Mumbai, this residence offers a compelling lesson in what makes a truly luxurious home feel special. It is not about filling a space with opulent materials or making grand gestures at every turn. It is about knowing when to surprise, when to soften, when to conceal and when to let a material speak for itself.
From the illusion of daylight at the entrance to the quiet sanctuary of the sandstone mandir, from the mother-of-pearl detailing in the living room to the dramatic geometry of the dining table, every corner reveals another layer.
