  • Residence Designed In Country Cottage Style With A ‘Take Us Back To Country Roads’ Vibe | Simplecede

Pepper is their Pet and Coffee is the customer’s first love. For they grew-up around the harvests of Pepper and Coffee in the Estates of Chikmagalur and have memories galore. Bengaluru happened ever since early adults and stays as their city after 30 odd years, 2 kids and a home. But even today, they reckon the woods, the cottage, that cosy vibes they were raised with. Thus when we were discussing the renovation of their 20 year old city dwelling of 2000 Sq.Ft, the brief was simple, a residence designed in country cottage style with a ‘Take us back to country roads’ vibe.

Thus, the redesigning was done, keeping in mind the aesthetics of a country cottage with the entire house flooring changed to wooden. Besides there were many functional changes made to bring about the openness and conveniences to the home.

Some of the major ones were in the communal spaces of the ground and first floor. Ground floor’s living, kitchen and dining have been redesigned in an integrated manner to cohesively speak with each other. Each has its own zone, but if need be all of them combined together can be a large get-together area.

To begin, one now enters straight into the living room unlike the pre-renovation time. Beyond the living, is the dining which overlooks the deck on one side & relocated kitchen entry on the perpendicular. Kitchen now has an open plan with a breakfast counter.

This combined with the dining is the highlight of the ground floor, as one can enjoy their coffee and nibbles while admiring the greens outside. And on some nights, spirits rise with Sangrias.

Another interesting addition is the seating ledge that runs along the left wall providing for additional seating. Not to mention that, we have also caught the owners stretching out their legs on it and occasionally using it as a work space.

Around the area, the double height ceiling is closed off to create for an additional space in the 1st floor family lounge. Despite this, the entire living, dining looks open and airy, with this integration and the kitchen openness. Every old visitor in the house gushes about the new look and spaciousness.

Daughter’s bedroom has been given a facelift with neutral tones and an alluring dresser. A neatly designed low height seating gives an additional space to unwind and have a view of the outdoors.

Having grown and away for most times of the year, this room also converts into a Guest Bedroom, whenever needed.

Moving on to the first floor, the constraints were many.  Earlier, the so-called lounge/family space was ill-utilised due to its size and lack of appropriate walls for TV and lounge.

It was more like a large transit to the other rooms overlooking the ground floor and ended up being a dumping yard.

It was thus suggested to extend the floor till the end and plug-off the double height. Not only has this helped utilise the space better with a fairly large media space, but it has helped create for an elaborate Bar Unit on the rear and a partitioned Study Space behind the lounge.

Last but one of best makeovers have been for the Master Bedroom with a laid back, cosy, cottage-like appeal in its truest sense. Being a small room and to provide for an airiness, neutrality is maintained in the wardrobe and side tables were replaced with ledges running across to house the handy vanities.

A window seat tucked to the corner gives a cosy nook for one to read a book which the owner enjoys doing so every afternoon.

This Home, this little part in a bustling city is their solace. And Pepper & Coffee is a perfect ode to this urban solace.
