Ecoden 9B, a modern 3BHK apartment for a young family of four, boasts an L-shaped single unit of common area with a giant balcony, a spacious kitchen with open work area and store room. The unit has three good-sized bedrooms out of which two have attached dressing rooms and balconies. It also has a modest servant’s room with toilet.
The interior design requirements from the clients were to design a modern, colourful and sophisticated space emphasizing the spaciousness of the unit. They required a place to relax after their hectic work schedules; one being a doctor and the other an IT professional.

As one enters the living room through the foyer the focus is captured by the Yellow Accent wall. The natural light from the balcony reflects off the accent wall washing the whole room with warmth creating a cozy atmosphere.
The bright yellow is balanced with Grey walls. The pop of colors from the rugs and pillows creates a sense of playfulness adding to a charming first impression.
The accent wall seamlessly becomes a display shelf partitioning the family and dining/kitchen spaces. It visually connects both the spaces while allowing the dining area to enjoy its privacy. The wall between the kitchen and dining was knocked down and replaced with a breakfast counter to create a single volume of space. The common areas have free flowing movement throughout.
The dining area and the wash area carries a neutral color palette. The wallpaper pattern breaks the monotony in the dining area and the same wallpaper is reflected on the other side of the room to emphasize the TV unit panel and bridge both the spaces.
The kitchen is accented in refreshing blue tones along with white, continuing the playful and bold usage of colors. The terrazzo wall tiles complement the blue cabinets. The neutral backdrop and furniture allow the colors to shine.
The master bedroom explores edgy sophistication with its curvy lines and glossy finishes. The Polyurethane coated glossy white surfaces are contrasted with dark wood shaded WPC wall panels.
The groove detail in the panel and the parametric lighting pattern along the headboard, decorated with brass accessories give a sleek finish to the room.
The kids room is shared by two young girls. Meeting their growing demands of the space becomes the core of the design. The focus of the room is the floral inspired recessed wall light feature, which illuminates the room in a soft glow.
A colourful palette of teal, maroon and orange is adopted for the furniture in a fun grid pattern. Storage is maximized and bedside tables are replaced by a long seater for its dual function. The bedrooms were to be the coziest for them to retire after their respective shifts, the kids room to be playful and fun.
Both were to be equipped with study areas. The architects were able to deliver a design with colors and tones to match the clients’ expectations, considering the flow of functions that may occur as one moves around.
