Located in Surat, the client approached us to craft a 2400 sq ft. 5 BHK Bungalow with a modernist appearance topped with luxury and comfort. Our vision was to give distinct look to each corner and room of the house keeping in mind its utility. In order to balance the monochrome with wood tone, the furniture was chosen to be made of teak wood, which offers relaxation via soft beige and white hue.

Bungalow With A Modernist Appearance Topped With Luxury And Comfort | Nirman Design Studio

VISIT : Nirman Design Studio

The ground floor gives inside-outside space with linear garden with dense vegetation as well as inculcating it on different levels of the house. The elevation is rhythmic with all facades treated differently yet in harmony. The external material palette consists of natural brick and ceramic as the primary finish with minimal use of metal shading and glazing for functional areas.

The brief by the client was to design a house that is internally open, letting nature interact with different typologies of spaces and giving landscape major priority. The staircase in the house was specifically asked to be designed distinctive and decorous.

The house is spatially organized on two stories with five bedrooms, family living, a dining area, An entertainment room, and an exterior veranda at all levels opening frontwards, the overall color palette of the house gives a sentiment of tranquillity.

The vegetation on the peripheral frontage invites the user into the plot, revealing the house to its fullest beauty. The house has a Front entrance to the plot guiding user to the shaded glass porch with wooden swing.

The house is oriented with maximum large openings on the front facade consisting of common amenities and keeping private spaces in the rear. The Living room has a seating facing toward a linear water feature with a backdrop of plantation and garden.

There is an airy modern layout with bespoke furniture of the modern styled sofa, panelling walls, and a laid-back low-key feel – a place where family and friends can come lounge without ceremony.

The art of controlling the natural and artificial light in the interior concept brings an immediate physical involvement of the people in the changing seasons’ which underlines the volatility of reality and the interdependence between humans and the natural environment.

The staircase lounge visually connects the user to the outside while the space allows for a pause point at the entrance into the house. The living room has a classic setting embracing nature overlooking the garden and the water feature, bringing in natural light through huge glass openings.

A comfortable dining space design is nourishing for the stomach and the soul alike. 6- Seater dining table with white onyx top and leathered base allow the dining arrangement to stand out with emphasis.

The kitchen and dining are designed in a linear space connecting to the utility at back and an attached store for the kitchen.

The first and second floors accommodate the more private spaces sacrosanct to the home anatomy, with bed & bath spaces. The daughter’s bedroom is designed to give an elegant look with a dark colored wall texture along, with a wooden deck overlooking the window.

The dressing room and washroom entrance through a glass partition segregating wet, dry and semi-dry, and mirror on the opposite facade giving the feel of grandness.

The passage at the end opens into the son’s bedroom. The serene subtle color palette on the interior gives tenderness of calmness, while the furniture elevates the relaxing experience.

The strategic placement of windows visually connects the front porch on the east yet controls the harsh sunlight entering the bedroom, bringing in the natural light throughout the daytime.

The walk-in dressing and washroom entry through a glass partition with a linear wardrobe and different wet and semi-dry spaces as well as aesthetically majestic. The covered balcony on the east has seating with planters beautifying the space.

A healthy social-life balance is key to the city kin, on the second floor creates just the right space for entertaining. With spacious entertainment room with theatre and mocktail bar space, the entertainment room becomes conducive to a lovely social get-together.

The other side Bedroom designed for the eldest member of the family, the room features a designer fabric-cushioned bed back nestled within a modestly detailed fluted sheet on wall.

A modern-looking clean Italian Stone Wall offers an elegant; sharp yet complementing contrast to the soft upholstered furnishings. These side faces are connected with a full wall window that allows for abundant natural light in the room.

The client’s brief was clear. He wanted the home with comfortable living for him and his parents, coupled with interaction with surrounding nature. The intent was to create a design mark keeping in mind these parameters. This brief resulted in a two-floor house that effortlessly flows from common to private areas, possesses a sense of openness, and is embraced by greenery.
