The Jain Residence at Avighna IX, Mumbai, is a pure embodiment of timeless design, grandeur, luxury and comfort. This 2BHK residence synthesizes subtle elegance embellished with custom details and design aesthetics. Envisioned by Principal Designer Silky Dhillon, this 800sq.ft holiday home strings together minimalist yet catchy elements that add to its refined look. The Dubai-based client, in his brief, clearly called for a modern luxurious design for their vacation home in Mumbai. Home to two generations, the owner and his family, who frequently travel from Dubai to Mumbai, desired a cosy and opulent look that effortlessly matches their taste, lifestyle and preferences. The interiors of this cosy haven take a cue from modern Neo-Classical panache.After several visits to the site and meetings with the client, designer Silky Dhillon poured in all her travel inspirations and consummate skill to achieve the desired design scheme Sharing her experience, she said, “Designing this vacation home was indeed an out-of-box experience, as it gave me more scope to experiment. Since the brief was clear, we devised a mix of modern neoclassical design for the space. The project required a lot of aesthetic detailing. However, we completed this project in six months span.”

Upon entering the house, the spacious living room greets the guests with its minimal yet functional look. The entrance area features a matte gold fabricated partition and a console elegantly clad with a distressed mirror. The matte gold partition is held together by metal frames that allow transparency while separating the areas.
The Living area boasts a mix of modern neo-classical touches. The flooring is covered in Italian marble, whereas the wall and ceiling feature customized MDF moulding coated with texture paint from Kemtex Paints in the shade Arava.
Besides, the designer has tastefully added matte gold accents that add an element of luxury and glam to the space. The entire loose furniture is custom-made and sourced from SKB enterprises. The TV unit in the Living area is sleek storage that effortlessly blends with the decor. The teal blue sofa and centre table lends a minimal yet impeccable look to the living room. The wall behind the sofa clad in beautiful book-matched stone sets serves as an opulent backdrop. Besides, artefact pieces from Canvas Home add an element of art to the decor.
As one moves further, the inviting and free-flowing kitchen and dining area draw attention to the fine detailing given to the space. As the client has friends and family often visiting them, they wanted the entire social space, including the kitchen, dining and living room, to be connected and open. Based on the requirement, the designer helped them plan an open modular kitchen layout with a step-up dining platform which adds drama to the space and ensures seamless conversations with guests.
The chandelier above the dining area serves as the centrepiece. After reviewing several decorative lightings, the designer zeroed down on a quirky chandelier from Kumar lamps, which balances the overall look of the space. Another challenge while designing the kitchen was selecting an apt chimney that fits the space. Given that the kitchen has an open layout, the designer opted for a ceiling-touch chimney which looks seamless.
The bespoke fluted gold flakes glass partition adds a touch of luxury to the busy kitchen area. Besides, the wall adjacent to the Lazer cut art features a series of flutes which continues up to the wash-basin area. These flutes were carved using a beautiful marble called Saron Colin Marble, procured from Elegant Marble.Â
As one moves to the bedrooms, the large windows allow plenty of natural light to flood both rooms. Besides, one can enjoy the scenic view of Mumbai skylines and the hustle-bustle of city life. For the parent’s bedroom, the designer opted for traditional walnut veneer with a hint of matte NR (non-reflective gold mirror) and the sliding wardrobes were made from floor-to-ceiling. The ceiling height of the apartment is 10 feet. A lot of customized detailing was done on-site with the materials used for the suspended TV ledge, which made the space look lighter.
For the Master bedroom, the client preferred a completely white room with a hint of blush-pink look. They did not want any wood tones for their bedroom.
Thus, the designer has used a white back painted glass on the full-height sliding wardrobe with concealed rose gold metal handles and a Duco Pu on the furniture.
Overall, the designer has successfully achieved a home-away-home experience for the Jain residence by fusing subtle colour tones, engaging design aesthetics, custom details and other eclectic elements.
