The Teal Blue Salon With Mediterranean Approach | Ketaki Poonawala Designs
When we were approached to design a salon and Spa in a swanky location of Koregaon, it was an absolute thrill moment. The approach while designing this space was to give it a warm and relaxed feel. The Mediterranean approach which meant a holiday feel yet retaining a glam effect for the entire space.
Designer: Ketaki Poonawala Designs
The utmost focus was given on the services since this space involved a lot of activities dependent on washing and draining. The Back was stations and pedicure stations were clubbed together to have common drainage and water connection. The building has a glass facade on two sides. This negated the options of having drainage shafts and the entire plan was based on easing out these factors.
The palette that was resorted to was a lot of wood, greys, teal blue and yellow ochre.
The entire space has been subdivided into two zones. Public and Private. The Public zone had the Reception, waiting, hair stations and the nail bar.
The Reception table has been strategically placed across the entry and has been clad with a combination of teak wood and distressed white tiles. The merchandise rack is placed right next to it.
The Private zone has rooms requiring a serene and quiet ambiance. They include the bridal room, waxing rooms, skin treatment room, and massage room. They take up the inner spine of the space. Dim lighting has been resorted to in this zone.
The haircutting stations are set against a brick wall backdrop creating the necessary drama and rendering it the raw edge. A series of brass hanging lamps, one over each chair accentuates this section. The entire ceiling is a combination of Ceraboard in wooden finish and white paint.
Selective use of teal blue and yellow ochre adds a freshness to the entrance foyer and this treatment runs even on the hair cutting and styling stations, waiting area sofa and nail station space chairs. The pedicure and manicure stations are set beside the glazed surface which overlooks onto a massive green tree. The white semi-transparent drapes give a softer feel to this area and also controls the daylight during the afternoon hours.
Moroccan tiles have been interestingly integrated with the Grey flooring to add colour as well as a resort-like an ambience to the entire space. The same tiles run through the corridor towards the private zone. The lighting in this space is mellowed down.
Isn’t is always a pleasure to relax and unwind alongside nature. That was exactly the agenda while planning these spaces.
An eclectic wallpaper behind the couches in a teal blue and pink colour with accents of foliage adds a Boho hint and drama to space. Plentiful use of wooden elements lends warmth to these spaces making the clients feel at home yet glam which was the exact requirement of the client.
Client’s brief was to design Reception & Waiting with both side glass facade. the salon has 6 hair styling stations, with bridal makeup roomand 4 treatment rooms. the salon has pedicure and manicure stations. The Public zone had the Reception, waiting, hair stations and the nail bar.Moroccan tiles have been interestingly integrated with the Grey flooring to add colour as well as a resort-like an ambience to the entire space with backwash stations.
