Amoda embraces the simplicity of Japandi, married with the rustic charm of Wabi Sabi with a touch of culturally inspired Indian Interiors. Here, natural elements take centre stage with a palette inspired by muted tones. It adopts raw finishes, weathered wood, lime plaster, and hand-crafted elements to invite a tactile experience. Amoda captures the essence of Indian home interiors. As soon as you enter the home, the relaxing atmosphere will soothe you down. Going by the literal meaning, it means pure happiness and unlimited joy. This also justifies the whole journey; it was nothing short of a joy ride for us, and the satisfaction of the clients during each site visit showed their happiness with the progress.
Editor’s Note: This magnificent residence in Pune amalgamates Japandi, Wabi Sabi and Indian interiors in a smooth manner. The interiors have a refreshing, earthy touch, along with the combination of lime-finished walls and teak taking centre stage. The varied striation of veneer is carefully selected so that it goes perfectly with the overall theme of the home. – Gopika Pramod
Amoda Embraces Japandi And Wabi Sabi With A Touch Of Indian Interiors | The Canvas Project
Before entering you would be awestruck by the entrance paneling with a hint of lime plaster outside the gate. Once inside the Indian interiors of this home, a small passage takes you to the living area, which is kind of attached to the kitchen and dining area. The initial layout given by the builder was kind of a closed kitchen with just a small entry to it. We demolished the entire partition wall to give it that grand feeling and to plan the kitchen storage.
The living room and kitchen set the tone of the entire house with carefully chosen earthy textures. The lime finish and teak wood veneer play a pivotal role here and give you that atmosphere to unwind after all your hustles.
Adjacent to the living room is the kitchen and the partition is created using a White Quartz breakfast table with a small Dining table. The below counter storage, inspired by wooden texture with grooves, showcases fine craftsmanship. In contrast, the above counter storage, finished with a muted PU tone and complemented by similarly toned wall tiles, provides a much-needed break.
Another highlight of the living room is the small TV console with shelves above it. To break the wooden monotony, a cane partition was planned. Even the small elements, like the sofa’s back wall, are an element in themselves. The balcony window and the gate are all rebuilt using teak wood to add some more warmth. Also if you notice the common element, it would be arches, be it an entrance arch, a dining partition wall, temple grooves, or a dining table design.
Swing was one of the first requirements that came from clients and was a difficult task to execute, being a small living area. But we took it head-on as a challenge and executed it with meticulously fine details. The overall plan was not to make it look bulky but, at the same time, to draw your attention.
Temple : As the temple was coming as part of Living and Kitchen and it was a dedicated full unit just for idols. So it had to be planned well and we went ahead with the same veneer but added those curved grooves to stand out amongst other furniture pieces and was executed with openable and foldable shutters to not block the area.
The master bedroom embraces simple living and sticking to essentials. The bed, wardrobe, TV console, and study unit are all finished with a warm teak veneer, and the tone was once again set to be earthy here.
The Kids room, which was designed with a Space theme as the clients had 2 children (preschooler and a toddler). And the requirement was to design it keeping the next phase of their life.
Specially customised solar systems and that astronaut wallpaper added to the kid’s excitement, and the Swedish ladder was the kid’s demand. Here as well, the designer has used a very muted colour scheme, combining teak and beige laminate.
Before entering the living room, the passage has a hidden door towards the Guest room or multipurpose room. Where the requirements were straight forward for a bed and some storage, we proposed Murphy bed to utilize the space when no guests are there and carefully executed it.
Once we close the bed, no one can tell there’s a bed in the guest room. The highlight of this room is that customized wallpaper to elevate the entire mood and that pastel shade laminate finish makes it airy.
Swing is what comes to mind while thinking of challenges. It was a small space, and we didn’t want to burden the space with a lot of elements. But with careful planning and swift execution, we played around with this challenge. Other than that, clients were so categorised with their decisions and choices that challenges were addressed way before they turned into obstacles. Plus, the trust they had in us made us equal stakeholders in decisions.
