Office is on a Commercial Building Developed From an Old Dilapidated House | Studio Infinity

We came across this project which was a proposed commercial building to be developed on an old dilapidated house. For a long time we were looking out for a space that will fulfil our spatial needs and the same time will provide us a relief from a typical urban set up in terms of visual experience. Since we were one of the earlier investors, we had the chance to choose the floor out of this 7 storeyed building.

Editor’s Note: “This splendid office space in Pune transcends typical office interiors, offering an earthy and enjoyable working environment. The design exudes timelessness, with interiors that invite abundant natural light and promote open spatial planning. Meticulous attention to detail and a sophisticated selection of materials create a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.” ~Simran Khare

Site Context

The space is located in a medium density neighborhood, abutting a very busy street. In terms of civil changes we had opted for a bare shell premise. So, the only constraints were the building’s common service lines and the three side glazed façade.

Originally these were three offices which we clubbed together to create a single space. In terms of zoning, the western side is the semi – private zone which includes the reception, waiting, meeting rooms and engineering department. The eastern side is a more private space having the studio, dining space and work areas for the team and partners.

Earthy Design Language

A common design language weaves the entire space through materials, detailing and fundamental principle of visual connectivity. Textures, colours and overall look and feel is very earthy, which intends to move away from a typical workspace trend. It creates a more enjoyable working environment.

Intentionally there is no specific theme to the space design because we wanted the space to be timeless. The materials , the use of natural light and the easy transition across zones together are key elements which define spatial nuances and intern become the design vocabulary.

On a subtle note the references and the memories of the city and the users association with it has been defining various decisions throughout the course of this project.

We fondly call this space ‘The Open Axis’ purely because visually this entire space is connected across the X and Y axis. So creating a module, defining a grid and creating an order in which various spaces connect with each other was a joyful experience during our journey in design.

Challenges And Hurdles

The most challenging aspect was to tackle the external glass façade which became like a restriction on our aesthetics. This was tackled by wrapping the entire external periphery with a series of metal screens.

Like all our other projects, although this space visually turns out to be definitive in terms of the aesthetic appeal, we have ensured that it responds to the spatial needs of the users and also the visitors.
