The Project is an Extension on a Bungalow in the Old Locality of Surat | Neogenesis+Studi0261

The project is an extension on a bungalow in the old locality of Surat, where the architects from Neogenesis+Studi0261 were to design third floor and terrace for the family. The spatial requirements of the two storeyed house in Rander were circumscribed to living room, two master bedrooms and one guestroom, whereas the kitchen already existed on the.

The brief was clear and crisp. “The client wanted their home to look spacious and uncluttered that gives a classic, elegant and a modest vibe” conveyed Ar. Jigar Asarawala. Keeping this in mind, the designers plotted a muted, minimalistic design scheme with grey playing an instrumental part.

The so-called vibrancy of grey created a sublime palette where it shapes a good backdrop for the whole shebang yet does not over power anything.

“Grey is associated with sophistication, elegance, and refinement. Its modest nature conveys a sense of understated luxury and timeless style” explains Ar. Tarika Asarawala. “Using grey as a colour for interiors can create a contemporary, sophisticated and versatile aesthetic” added.

The entrance foyer turns out to be a pause point where one gets greeted to the monolithic interiors with an alluring metal Islamic artwork. The foyer further leads to the living room where the furniture plays the lead protagonist.

The grey painted walls establish a neutral backdrop for the custom-made pop coloured furniture and other elements in the room to stand out. The kids bedroom lingers to follow the same palette with the hints of green PU. The charmingly painted wardrobe makes the room educative yet playful.

The guest bedroom incorporates a foldable bed to keep the space free of interruptions. This enables the family to have a dedicated space for offering Namaa.

The ‘monolith gris’ tile flooring and the grey texture from concrete expo encapsulates the flawless dwelling. Complementary colours have been introduced as a part of furnishings, curtains and rugs.

The choice of furniture pieces by the architects considers a minimum display and more of utilitarian furniture throughout the home.

Natural light enhances the subtle nuances of grey. Diverse hues and tones of grey are in both, natural and artificial lighting to find the perfect shade and balance to the interiors.
