  • A Modern House With Clean Spaces And Minimal Furniture | Studio SPlace

The site is located in Malad, a 750 sq.ft apartment with a very tight budget. When the clients approached us with their house it was an extremely chaotic, dark and cluttered space, with furniture placed everywhere not as per the proportion to the space. The client was very clear that they wanted a more organized cleaner space which could host larger gatherings too for occasional dinners. This was the starting point of the design where we immediately knew that we had to design a modern house with clean spaces and minimal furniture that could be easily moved around and used as per the clients’ requirement, ample storage and brighter room. The family comprises of 2 people; both working. Post lockdown the main requirement was to have a working desk, lots of storage and clutter free space to move around.

The whole house has a similar tone of wood and grey with lots of greens and white walls to make the house look more open, larger and cleaner.

The living and dining had to be planned in such a way that at times it could hot larger group of people. Keeping the furniture minimal and extending seating space at the window every area has an essence to itself.

Dining area has a small coffee station with crockery storage, adjacent to which is a temple with perforated jaali shutters to give it more relief and merges well with the surroundings, for the tv unit in the living room we were very clear to not make it look heavy yet a space to add their collection or artifacts from around the world hence the use of MS bars with wooden shelves to not only make it look light weighted but at the same time to add in a lot of art pieces.

For sofa we chose a solid a grey colour to maintain the theme and a floral chair to add in colour, its a perfect corner to have your coffee in the morning, read a book or just sit down and scroll through your phone.

Similarly for the dining area the bench is in the same floral print to maintain symmetry with solid grey chairs and marble finish dining table.

For the kitchen we chose a grey colour monotone laminate and Moroccan tiles for the dado, it not only makes the kitchen look sleeker but the tiles add in a lot of colour and brightness to the room.

For the master bedroom we knew that the furniture layout had to be minimum, continuing with the same tone in the finishes, maintaining the walls white, the wood brings in a lot of warmth and calmness in the room, perfect to snooze.

For the other bedroom the client was very clear that they wanted it to be a guest room/work space for them. Instead of a full size bed we decided to have a day bed which opens up to a full size bed when they have guests over, the other side of the room has a study table and library space perfect to work or ever read a book.

Materiality is again maintained, with the wardrobe in the same wooden tone and the library in MS to keep it light weighted.
