In a city where walls, rooms, and rigid hierarchies often define homes, KEDAR explores a new idea of coexistence.Designed as a 1,435 sq.ft. apartment for a bachelor with a dynamic lifestyle, the home allows work, leisure, gathering, and solitude to coexist within a continuous, fluid living environment rather than confining them to separate rooms.
Rather than assigning fixed roles to spaces, KEDAR operates through overlap. Each zone carries its own atmosphere, yet remains part of a larger, cohesive whole. Shifts in light, material, and proportion guide each transition, allowing the home to evolve through use rather than prescription.
Studio Timescape
The journey begins at the foyer, where a ripple-inspired ceiling introduces a sense of movement and transition. Rather than functioning as a conventional entry, the space becomes the first expression of coexistence, mediating between the energy of the city outside and the quieter atmosphere of the home within. Reflections, texture, and layered visual depth create an arrival experience where contrasting moods coexist, feeling immersive yet understated.
The living room is conceived as an open social landscape where boundaries are suggested rather than imposed. Furniture placement, proportion, and visual continuity define occupation, allowing the space to accommodate multiple modes of use without reconfiguration. Long horizontal elements reinforce a sense of openness, while natural light continuously alters the perception of surfaces and volume throughout the day.
At the heart of the apartment, the dining, bar, and kitchen form a connected sequence that reflects contemporary patterns of living. Rather than functioning as isolated rooms, these spaces encourage overlap between preparation, gathering, conversation, and entertainment.
The circular dining table establishes a shared centre for interaction, while the adjoining bar extends the social character of the space. Together, they transform everyday routines into shared experiences.
The primary bedroom introduces a deliberate shift in atmosphere. While the public areas of the home remain open and fluid, this space embraces coexistence between openness and privacy. Materiality becomes deeper, light becomes softer, and the visual language feels more grounded. Designed as a retreat from the pace of daily life, the room balances stillness, reflection, and personal rituals within a calm, intimate setting.
In contrast, the guest bedroom adopts a lighter and more flexible identity. Rather than being designed around a fixed occupant, it remains intentionally adaptable, creating a welcoming environment capable of accommodating different users and durations of stay.
The study completes the spatial narrative by offering a dedicated setting for focus and contemplation. Conceived as a pause within the larger plan, it balances privacy with connection, allowing work to coexist with the rhythms of the home without becoming isolated from them.
The project celebrates coexistence through a series of contrasts that never feel conflicting—social yet solitary, open yet intimate, composed yet unstructured. Functions are not assigned but suggested. The foyer invites, the living room gathers, the dining area lingers, the kitchen sharpens, the bedroom withdraws, and the study reflects. Yet none of these roles remain fixed. They coexist, overlap, and adapt to the changing rhythms of everyday life.
Designed for a life that resists routine, KEDAR becomes less about architecture and more about alignment between space and state of mind. It acknowledges that contemporary living is layered, fluid, and rarely singular. Rather than defining life within it, the home evolves alongside it- offering a framework that is adaptable, personal, and continually open to change.
