  • This Upscale Pub in Bangalore has Two Different Characters : Roman Architecture and Artistic – Suzy Q | Maze Concept

    [Sassy_Social_Share]

Sipping your favorite beverages and grooving to the DJ, surrounded by the grandeur of Roman architecture brings a spirit of camaraderie among locals and design lovers, alike. The faux-stained lime plaster arches make for a stupendous entry and an immersive experience for two-seater diners under the camouflaged chandeliers with warmly lit wall sconces. With checkered flooring and monochromatic booth seating, the rococo-legged table and upholstered chairs too, share the aesthetic consistency. With such an experiential approach, one is sure to remember this affair as anything but ordinary. ~Yamini Vaswani

This Upscale Pub in Bangalore has Two Different Characters : Roman Architecture and Artistic – Suzy Q | Maze Concept

    Visit: Maze Concept

The site was an existing restaurant at the heart of the city which the client wanted to renovate, to match the growing energy and the demand of the Bangalore crowd.  The restaurant had a prominent arched colonnade and vaulted roof with the ceiling height of 20 feet. The focus of the design was to add more warmth and increase the existing fine dine seating to an upscale pub for a larger and eccentric crowd.

Born out of our very own garden city, the entire entryway to the building was remodeled to create an outdoor vibe, one cannot resist. The entrance is through a hardscaped pathway with canopies that are festooned with foliage. The highlight of the outdoor space is a tree of about 15’ height which creates a relaxing atmosphere while taking care of the harsh sun during the summers. Facing the red arched façade of the building are pockets of 2 seater red booths which we would rather call ” THE LOVE BOOTHS”, these booths are tucked away two seater tables with a splash of red all over including the chandelier camouflaged with the red arches. The entire outdoor area invokes a feeling of a garden filled with plush foliage. The ambience is rustic mixed with a timeless colonial vibe, that are through the tall lamp posts and wicker chandeliers. Distinctive features of the space are the colors that are reflected through the statues and furniture in the entire restaurant. From a bright yellow to a more subtle tan, the warmth of the colors are reflected in the interiors too.

Once we move into the indoors, the entire vast space that used to be one is now divided into two bays. The ceiling height paved the way for us to create a roman façade with a balcony for the DJ to mix his music and uplift the energy. This makes the space more flexible and can be easily converted to a high energy pub. The balconies continue as a feature on the brick cladded walls to maintain the same character. The greenery is observed all over the indoors. This bay also consists of a central amoebic community seater to create more interactions. The Entire restaurant has some experimental seating arrangements to bring something new to the table, consisting of low booth seating to maximum high seating. The walls of the restaurant are used as a canvas to display art and pops of color. Suzy is definitely hidden in these walls! The latter Bay has a more formal booth seating with circular drop down canopies with light and foliage creating a warm environment and a sense to scale with respect to the high ceiling.

The sculptures and the large murals  bring in a lot of character and color to the space, as contrary to elements of Roman architecture the murals represent different characters of a modern day woman who is elegant but very bold. The sculptures have an eccentric take on how they are showcased which brings in curiosity to the user and makes the experience more fun.

The interiors of Suzy Q have two different characters, one which is set in Rome and the other is through the artworks that have been created on the interior walls. These characters, though are a complete contrast, makes the space look classy and sassy at the same time creating an uptown vibe which would make you coming back for more every time.
