Located at the heart of city’s busy bazaars, this Trichy restaurant redefines Indian fast-food dining experience. The brief was to create a curated interior ambience that is generally not provided in mid-range South Indian restaurants, breaking the concept of compartmentalising certain styles of designs for certain groups of users. The overarching theme was to design without boundaries.

The 2550 sq.ft. Trichy restaurant splits into two floors, characterized by a long, narrow floor plate. The design challenge was, however, to create a spatial layout that breaks the floor plate’s linearity and monotony. Additionally, to incorporate as many seats as possible, the designers accomplished this by dividing the floor plate into different zones. However, offering a variety of seating types will help break the monotony.
Flooring variations, and design elements like arched partitions that also act as spatial segregators were also used to create interest. The use of fixed booth seats and benches was incorporated to maximize the available space, by reducing the space required to push back loose furniture.
The ground floor is designed to have an indo-fusion aesthetic that evokes warmth and vibrance. As the ground floor caters more towards a fast and casual crowd, the spatial planning also reflects the same with a seating arrangement that is quick to access.
The material palette however, comprises of earthy tones like tan and greens complemented by teak wood and cane. The rust orange ceiling forms the unifying element of the entire space.
Design elements treat the columns on either side. Additionally, arched mirrors are layered on top of the columns on one side. The mirrors create reflections that make the space feels wider than what it is.
On the other side, the designers treat the columns with fluted wooden paneling. The linear light installation however, creates an interesting visual element for the space.
The first floor is designed for a more slow-paced fine dining experience, by bringing in a touch of vintage English aesthetics.
The palette consists of a deep blue canvas complemented by black and white patterned flooring. Moreover, it is peppered with muted tones of tans, browns, and beiges.
However, on one side of the floor plate, the fluted glass arches break the linearity of the space and create pockets of seating. The ribbed concrete panels on the wall also create a visual relief from the contrasting colours around it.
The canvas lantern casts a gentle light on the table. The booth seating with visual buffers on either side enables a cozy dining experience.
The designers alternate the other side of the floor plate with booths and cane chairs to avoid monotony, creating asymmetry.
The deep blue ceiling blends into the wall, which features black and white photographs of Trichy, reminiscent of a different era.
Moving further, the black and white patterned flooring gives a vintage touch, complementing the cane, the blue, and the Victorian wall lamps.
The wooden flooring creates a visual segregation between different zones of seating.
