Studio KNest approaches minimalism not as an absence of elements, but as a deliberate design choice. The Coastal नेस्ट draws its inspiration from soft sea-blue, greens, earthy textures and an easy, unhurried spatial flow. Thus ,evoking the calm and fluidity of a coastal landscape within a contemporary home. This residence reflects the studio’s signature language—soft geometries, restrained palettes and arches as a recurring architectural motif.
This Mumbai Coastal Home Layers Sea-Blue Tones with Soft Geometry and Earthy Textures | Studio KNest
The design creates a serene, light-filled living room. Texture and curved forms soften the space. A neutral palette of warm whites, sand tones, and muted blues forms the backdrop, allowing natural light to gently animate the space throughout the day.
The design team keeps the seating low and sculptural to reinforce a sense of openness. Bespoke wooden furniture adds warmth and grounding to the space. An understated artwork adds depth without disrupting the room’s calm composure. A continuous wainscoted wall detail anchors the space, balancing the height of the room while maintaining visual continuity.
The pooja space is seamlessly integrated within the living area, conceived as a contemplative niche rather than a separate room. This integration reflects Studio KNest’s belief in modern Indian homes—where tradition and minimalism coexist effortlessly.
The design breaks from the home’s restrained palette in the powder washroom. Tropical wallpaper envelops the compact space, adding depth and character. Kept deliberately subtle otherwise, the design allows pattern and texture to take centre stage without overwhelming the experience.
The design creates the guest bedroom as a flexible, multi-functional space. They integrate a custom Murphy bed within a full-height storage unit to anchor the room. Finished in a muted sea-blue palette, the unit allows the room to transition seamlessly between a sleeping space and an open, functional area when not in use.
Black-and-white striped fabrics introduce graphic contrast, while grey-toned wooden flooring grounds the space with warmth and neutrality.
The parents’ master bedroom is envisioned as a warm, restorative retreat, guided by a soothing green palette and natural textures. Rattan elements introduce an organic softness, lending the space a relaxed, almost tropical sensibility. A niche arch becomes the focal point of the room, highlighted with a patterned wallpaper that adds depth and character without overwhelming the composition.
In contrast, the son’s master bedroom adopts a more contemporary language, defined by clean lines and a refined sand-toned mocha palette. The design prioritises simplicity and functionality, with a wardrobe system concealed behind soft curtains, allowing flexibility while maintaining visual lightness.
This residence unfolds as a series of thoughtfully composed spaces, each responding to its user while remaining connected through form, material, and proportion. From moments of quiet retreat to areas of everyday interaction, the design prioritises comfort, adaptability, and a sense of ease. Subtle architectural gestures and carefully curated finishes lend the home a lasting character—one that feels intuitive, layered, and enduring.
