Perched on the hills of Baner, amidst the thresholds of urban developments and the serenity of Pune’s landscape is a residence that is an ode to slow living. The essence of the project lies in its interpretation of a modern country style house with contemporary nuances in design and details. A vision shared by the clients cohesively was to follow principles of minimalist living and a sense of oneness to the spaces where they can experience ‘otium’ and embrace wellness and idyllic time.
This Modern Country Style House In Pune Is A Retreat Inspired By Countryside Living | PRISM
The emphasis on design is laid out on spatial quality and quaint lifestyle with elements that quintessentially infuse ‘modern country interiors.’ Adorned with natural finishes, woods, arches, and harmoniously blended textures and finishes, the residence is crafted to celebrate luxury with a sense of repose.
Inspired by the poem ‘In Possum Land by Henry Lawson’, the brief provided by the clients highlighted the desire to spend quality time with their extended family members and friends. Design discussions emphasized careful editing, practical design strategies as per the client’s utility, simplicity in elements, and integrations of forms, materials, and surfaces. The journey of the project, thus, lies in parallels between the design process and deliberate interactions, resulting in a home that prioritizes thoughtful living within its bucolic appeal.
The approach is adorned with arches and earthy walls at the entrance foyer, further gently revealing its timeless neutral hues in the living and dining area. ‘Flanked between a bibliophile’s nook and in-situ craftsmanship’, the living area unfolds itself in layers of warmth through the use of woods, stone, textiles and textures that weave a nostalgic charm, creating a cozy atmosphere.
Resembling an alcove with arches, the television unit along with the built-in bar and display cabinet adds grandeur to the living areas conveys focal points of the space and unifies the abode in the true sense. Laid around the coziness of a macramé swing, the furniture is adorned with plush textiles and upholsteries as they envelop the primary seating area into an inviting space.
The wooden floor, in its rustic elegance, flows in harmony. Additionally, it embraces the exposed structural elements and surfaces, which are preserved in their natural forms. Basking in rays of sunlight that filter through the expansive fenestrations, the exposed brick walls add warmth to the dining area. They evoke memories of a bygone era and preserve the country’s charm. Lime-washed walls and ceilings play with varied geometries and synergize the openness of the primary area. Subtle details crafted on-site enhance the minimalist approach of the design. Highlights in the form of artifacts, décor, and materials further add to its charm.
Classical in its appeal, the floating kitchen ‘quintessentially’ describes the narrative of the project with its indigenous details and interventions. Curated for culinary delights, the kitchen seamlessly embraces materials that capture its serenity. Deliberate discussions with the clients resulted in increasing the opening to the kitchen. Thus, allowing seamless connectivity to the primary living and dining area. The outcome is a bright and airy kitchen, rustic in its glory, contemporary in its context.
The kitchen is user-friendly at its core. Moreover, it provides the necessary utilities and storage solutions for effective functioning. Meanwhile, segregating the wash areas and services that provide the necessary aid. Quartz countertops, subway tiles, and open shelving finished in oak laminates define the space. Back-painted glass serves as a whiteboard, complemented by woven wicker baskets and fluted glass shutters. Additionally, in-situ details enhance the textural quality of the space.
Expressions of woods come through shiplap paneling with pop-up color, herringbone flooring, and furniture resembling countryside charm. Moreover, these elements allow the space to balance neutrality and color vibrancy.
Shiplap panelling accentuated with soft Mediterranean hues and floral motifs and textured upholsteries weave the master bedroom. Minimalist in approach, expressed by furniture in all the glory of white and complemented with seamless wooden flooring. Additionally, it provides calmness and leisure to its inhabitants.
Monochromatic hues cohesively combine with soft furnishings, an ambient setting, and thoughtful furniture. However, this captivates the essence of the bedroom. In adjacency lies the walk-in closet, refined with fabric-lined glass shutters adding volume to the understated luxury.
Eccentric in character, the daughter’s bedroom has a seamless Microtopping floor by ‘Instakrete.’ Minimalist furniture from Ikea and Afday adorns the room. Additionally, it personifies the bold and contemporary aesthetics of the space.
Clean geometric lines and in-situ details in wardrobe shutters and the reading area balance the surface imperfections of the seamless flooring.
Moreover, the midnight-inspired moon wall recreated with fibre optics acts as a perfect backdrop for the eccentric single bed draped in offbeat upholstery styled by Elysio.
