In a world where modern living often leans towards compact and isolated spaces, Kewal Kutumb is a home that stands as a refreshing reminder of the traditional family values deeply embedded in Indian culture. Located in a serene, suburban setting, Kewal Kutumb reimagines the concept of a family home by blending the grandeur of a mansion with the practicalities of contemporary living. It’s more than just a residence; it’s a “home of homes.”
This Home is a Reminder of Traditional Family Values and Culture | The Whitespace Architects
Kewal Kutumb, is a unique architectural project designed to house three generations under one roof. The property is home to three brothers and their families, each occupying a separate floor yet connected by the spirit of togetherness.
The concept centers on the idea of creating independent living spaces while maintaining a unified family environment.
Externally, the mansion is cleverly disguised to look like a single, expansive bungalow, but within, it houses six distinct flats, each with its unique layout.
The mansion concept speaks to both the heart and the eye, offering an aesthetically pleasing solution to multi-generational living.
Externally, the mansion is cleverly disguised to look like a single, expansive bungalow, but within, it houses six distinct flats, each with its own unique layout.
The exterior of Kewal Kutumb is an ode to classical architecture. It also exudes elegance and sophistication, reminiscent of the timeless bungalow style. The façade is adorned with slate stone cladding. Thus, adding a natural, earthy tone that blends seamlessly with the environment.
The textured paints further enhance the architectural detailing, providing depth and visual interest to the exterior. These design elements not only contribute to the mansion’s grandeur but also ensure that it stands out in the residential context.
Complementing the architectural style is a sprawling 12,000-square-foot lawn that frames the mansion, creating a welcoming entrance and a peaceful sanctuary for outdoor activities. The property also offers a generous parking facility in the basement, which is a luxury in most urban settings.
The interior layout of Kewal Kutumb is meticulously planned to accommodate both shared and private living spaces, promoting harmony among the residents. The ground floor is dedicated to communal areas. Thus, featuring a 555-square-foot living hall and a guest room that serve as common spaces for all family members. These areas are designed for family gatherings, celebrations, and day-to-day bonding, reinforcing the idea of a shared family experience.
Moving further, the upper floors are where the concept of “home within a home” truly comes to life. Each floor houses two nuclear flats, each tailored to meet the individual needs of each family. The flexibility in design allows each unit to function independently. Moreover, it is complete with separate living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms. This layout ensures that while each family enjoys their privacy and personal space, they remain just a floor away from each other.
The topmost floor is particularly noteworthy. It consists of a single flat with access to a private terrace. Thus, offering panoramic views of the surroundings and an opportunity for serene outdoor relaxation. This terrace space can be customized to suit various needs, from a garden oasis to an open-air dining area.
Kewal Kutumb is more than just a residential project; it’s a statement on modern living rooted in traditional values. The design skilfully marries classical architectural aesthetics with modern functionality. Thus, creating a “home of homes” that caters to both collective and individual needs. It stands as a testament to the idea that living together as a family does not have to come at the cost of personal space. With its thoughtful design, elegant architecture, and adaptability for the future, Kewal Kutumb is a model for multi-generational living in the modern world.
