This Flat in Mumbai Stands as a Testament to Sophisticated Living | SP Makharia & Associates
The owner had a simple yet intriguing brief: to create a modern urban sanctuary blending simplicity with sophistication. Blending clean lines with innovative materials, the interior exudes a sleek yet inviting ambience. Large, strategically placed windows flood the interior with natural light, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Thoughtful spatial planning ensures functionality while maintaining an open, airy feel. This flat in Mumbai not only provides a luxurious haven but is also a perfect retreat for the modern homeowner.
Anchored by this vision, the collaboration between the client and design team’s aim was to transform the space into a modern, contemporary abode. Drawing inspiration from the client’s love for simplicity, the design narrative revolves around sleek lines, neutral palettes, and functional furnishings. It’s a harmonious fusion of style and functionality, tailored to suit the dynamic lifestyle of city living.
Entry to the foyer of this modern contemporary house sets the tone for the entire home with its clean lines and mirrors that double the space aesthetically. This opens into the living area with customised furniture in a beige and grey palette. With a dash of metal elements and marble, the space is bold and stylish.
The space is anchored by a large sectional sofa in soft, neutral leather. A sleek, low-profile cluster of coffee tables with marble tops. The walls are kept neutral, allowing the furniture and decor to stand out. Floor-to-ceiling windows not only flood the room with natural light but also provide a seamless connection to the balcony outside. A modern, rectangular dining table with a marble top is surrounded by upholstered chairs in a mix of pastel hues, creating a dynamic yet harmonious look. Adjacent to the kitchen, the dining area features a statement wall in a metal unit with a mandir.
The built fabric further includes 3 bedrooms with fine detailing, adding an extra layer of experience to the user. The soft grey-beige and tan palette of the master bedroom walls creates a tranquil retreat, promoting rest and relaxation.
The bed features a tufted headboard in tan leather and grey tile with metal edging. The highlight point is the TV wall with flutes in veneer and units punctured, which continues to be studied. A cosy reading nook features comfortable seating positioned against the window.
In contrast, the kids bedroom is designed for two young girls, keeping in mind their individual study and storage spaces. The room features a delightful colour palette of soft pink and cool grey, creating a balance of warmth and sophistication suitable for young girls.
One accent wall is the bed back with a combination of veneer and fabric panels with a play of indirect light and levels, which continues to become seating against the window and makes that the highlight point for the girls. It balances fun and functionality, creating a beautiful and harmonious space where the girls can sleep, play, and grow.
The guest bedroom is equally inviting, with walls in beige with an accent of green and brown. The simple, unadorned walls feature metal inserts that enhance the sleek look. A large piece of abstract metal artwork hangs above the bed, serving as a focal point and adding a touch of sophistication.
This room emphasizes simplicity and elegance through minimal furniture and a cohesive colour scheme that feels both welcoming and luxurious. The thoughtfully designed house balances fun and functionality, creating a beautiful and harmonious space.
