This Contemporary Bungalow House Design Redefines Warm Neutrals | Urban Zen
Hyderabad, aka the city of pearls, is rightly known for the lustrous radiance and iridescent texture of its pearls, and Lumina Casa emerges as one among them. The moment one steps into this 4,500-square-foot bungalow, you can’t help but take a deep breath and exhale,” reflects designer Rohit Suraj about his latest creation in Hyderabad. After a busy day immersed in the city’s frenetic pace, the homeowners longed for their residence to be a sanctuary of restoration.
The design brief was straightforward: create a contemporary bungalow house design with a refined, neutral, and earthy palette that adheres to minimalist principles while allowing ample natural light to suffuse the interiors. Greeted by the verdant entryway on the ground floor that ripples through the first floor the home offers a welcome that manages to be both vibrant and soothing. To Rohit’s mind, one way to lean contemporary was to lean monochrome in motion, if not entirely, at least when it came to the walls and flooring, which he utilized in coy curves and organic tones. “We strove to achieve duality in design,” he shares when asked about the philosophy behind his aesthetic lexicon.
The living room showcases a colour palette of overcast grey, sandy beige, and gentle taupe accented with pops of satin finish timber. Inspired by pearls, the double-height wall features backlit brushed metal fixtures, which, when lit, radiantly reflect against the muted marble-clad wall.
The sinuous sofas, chairs, coffee table, and centre table, inspired by the flow of water over pebbles, feature a striking combination of forms and materials with a metallic base of the furniture and a distinct eggshell finish on the stone top of the tables.
Although separating the ground floor into two major zones, the mandir unites the family members for a regular ritual of prayer through its ornately designed doors and the sacred sound of the bells.
Meandering into the dining alcove, the ruby-flecked marble table top sets a spirited tone for the family to get together for every meal of the day.
Coupled with ergonomically inviting chairs, the dining scene is set between a beige micro-concrete wall that flanks two sleek, floating metal shelves with artistic marble-clad fixtures concealing the hardware on one side and a dry kitchen designed for serving, servicing, and cooking up light meals on the other side.
Separated by an internal partition wall, the monochromatic wet kitchen lays out a single, linear kitchen counter housing heavy equipment for intense cooks.
Transitioning from the ground to the first floor, whether by elevator or staircase, offers a distinct experience. Moreover, each medium is thoughtfully designed to evoke its unique atmosphere.
The elevator doors, clad in marble and metal, induce a flair of extravagant luxury. In contrast, the marble-laid stairway with clear glass and timber rail sets the tone for minimalist opulence.
After an exhaustive day, the members gather around the lounging area to take a moment of respite before heading to their private retreats. The area features a sofa and a pouffe. They enjoy this space in the continued presence of the double-height wall.
Progressing towards the end of the day or a lazy Sunday noon, the bedrooms are a meditative haven. The triple tan room greets with mocha brown marble, contrasted by a solid beige matte wall covering. The bed is layered with shades of tan, taupe, and additional tan.
Unlike the room that lights up from within like a pearl, this one features a backlit onyx backdrop. The bold pop of a mandarin orange nightstand adds a striking contrast.
Unique to these two rooms is the third one. It is accentuated by whimsical composition on the backdrop against the suede-upholstered bed. Moreover, it is paired with an ottoman featuring an asymmetrical colour constitution.
To achieve peak relaxation and rejuvenation at Casa Lumina, the family ascends to the private terrace. This features both covered and open-to-the-sky areas.
The skewed layout of the lounging deck is a departure from the conventional, both metaphorically and literally. The variety of plantations makes it a lush, bio-filtered outdoor retreat within the comfort of the home.
Casa Lumina stands as a testament to the harmony between contemporary elegance and nature’s tranquillity. This Hyderabad bungalow, designed by Rohit Suraj, offers an exquisite sanctuary where minimalist aesthetics meet luxurious comfort.
The design team meticulously crafts each space, from the welcoming verdant entryway to the serene private terrace. Their work aims to foster a sense of peace and rejuvenation.
The interplay of light, earthy tones, and eclectic furnishings transforms the home into a timeless masterpiece. The design effortlessly melds functionality with artistic expression, creating a living experience that is both profoundly restorative and visually captivating.
