  • This Burmese Restaurant Brings the Vibe and Culture of Myanmar | Minnie Bhatt Designs

    [Sassy_Social_Share]

After creating the interior design aesthetic for the Burmese restaurant brand, Burma Burma, across 11 outposts, Minnie Bhatt’s vision is to go with the aesthetic that resonates with the originality of the brand. Bangalore, being one of the most happening cities in India, has the fourth restaurant outlet in Orion Mall, which is situated in the outdoor area of the mall and by the lake.

Editor’s Note: “Bringing the chic aesthetic of Burma Burma’s restaurant, the design embraces every aspect of aesthetic functionality. With elegant furniture, vivid artwork, pagoda-shaped lighting, and lush greenery, the design effortlessly blends aesthetic beauty with functionality. Micro attention to detail and seamless spatial planning create a welcoming ambience, turning this Burmese restaurant into a harmonious retreat of comfort and culture.” ~Simran Khare

This Burmese restaurant has visuals of the lake from the outdoor area. Our idea was to bring the vibe & culture of the Inle Lake Region in Myanmar into the outdoor & indoor areas of the restaurant.

Upon entering, we have an outdoor area of about 100ft in length which highlights the wideness of the space. We designed and zoned the layout to include a few tables in the outdoor area, a bar, and a private dining space positioned on the far right of the outdoor section.

    Seamless Spatial Planning

We have a huge glass façade with moldings that separates the outdoor area from the indoor section. Our bar, which is a highlight of every restaurant, is located on the left side of the section on entering inside and the central area has a cluster of sofa seating and a dessert counter at the back.

We have a few highlighting elements in the restaurant that tie in with the concept designed for the outlet. As you enter the restaurant from the outdoor area, two large fiber boats from Inle Lake, painted to mimic a wooden finish, greet you on either side of the entry. Each boat is filled with a lush cluster of plants, adding a vibrant touch to the space.

We have a movable bar outside that connects with the indoor bar with a glass partition in the middle, making it look like a long, continuous bar, which is usually a highlight in all our Burma Burma restaurants. Being an outdoor area, we have tiled the floor using stone finish vitrified tiles, which help us to achieve the look.

    Blend of Materials

The ceiling has acrylic glass, which allows a lot of natural light to come inside. We have used rafters with a linen fabric interspersed together to block direct sunlight from coming in. Thus, making it a little pleasant for people seated outside.

The PDR area is kind of a premium zone and has a much closer and direct view of the lake. We thought of suspending decorative lights depicting the fishing nets of the fishermen in the Inle Lake using MS for the structure and covering it with cane.

The indoor area of the restaurant has a lot of design elements & installations that depict the Inle Lake of Myanmar.

    Landscape of Myanmar

The first is the decorative panel on the kitchen wall, which shows the landscape of Myanmar with the lake, fishermen, raw houses, & pagodas. However, they laser-cut these pieces and hang them on the wall in layers to create depth, with a two-tone blue textured paint as the background.

Secondly, we have the in-and-out long tea bar. The black and white woven cane apron of the bar, framed in deep maroon, stands out with its striking finish.

The bar back has a lot of shelving in between two closed cabinets, which we’ve again finished in distressed paint to complement the blue texture paint on the adjacent wall.

    Unique Lighting

The pagoda-shaped hanging lights have been a feature in all our restaurants across India. However, this one is in a different shape as it depicts the pagoda from the Inle Lake Region. This is comparatively taller and narrower in shape. Moreover, artisans craft it from a blend of woven cane and fiber, then paint it to achieve a wooden finish. These pieces spread across the central zone of the indoor area, creating a cohesive and natural aesthetic.

Then we have the dessert counter, which is carved out and finished in green marble. It is then cladded on all walls within a wall of veneer panelling.

We’ve used fluted veneer for the apron of the dessert counter to make it stand out more. The right wall of the indoor area has two huge shadow boxes that show the floating gardens of the lake. Moreover, this is done using artificial moss, 3D objects, and painted artwork.

We’ve brought together a lot of exciting elements. This is to create yet another restaurant for Burma Burma, making it special in its way.
