This Architect’s Home Exhibits The Requirements Focusing Accessibility | Architects at Work

This architect’s home exhibits the essential requirements focusing on accessibility, where the brief and approach seemed minimal. It was therefore decided to let the exposed concrete ceiling explore its individuality and materiality.

Design Approach

The idea of this architect’s home in physicality differs from individual to individual but the essence remains the same. The place of belongingness, joyfulness, and security is emotional and physical togetherness. All intangibles together create the idea of physicality—the ideal physical home that an individual opts for. The physicality that an individual or family opts for reflects their past, present, and future, shaping the essence of the past, needs of the present, and vision for the future.

Additionally, the combination of wood and concrete in the spaces creates a relationship where the originality of the materials and their essence in the functional spaces are viewed in harmony. The atmosphere that the materials produce, however, leaves a lasting visual and sensory impression.

The detailing in the spaces creates playfulness, adding intangibility to the spaces, which ultimately feel like “ghar”. Since the designers have a way with geometry, the approach is playful and brutal in the design.

Living Room

The brutalism approach in the design is reflected in every step inside the house. The living room with colored furniture enhances the exposed walls. Also, the ceiling of the living room is the key element of the house.

The designer also says,” The idea behind the ceiling was that every time you see it, it will make you think of hundreds and thousands of different ideas and strike new things, which ultimately opens the creative flow.”

Adding, “The plants in the living room add to the idea, making it soother and calmer, and moreover, making it all better.”

Dining Area

The living area and dining area, however, sets a thin line of functionality. Also, the backdrop in the dining area seems to be a continuous partition, designed to merge the bedroom door with the dining area’s continuity.

Bedrooms

With the subtleness, the play of colour in the furniture and the monochrome art add to the ambience, balancing the subtleness.

Therefore, the contrasting colour palette of peach and blue with walnut and a sleek range of wooden and metallic textures transform this brutalist premise into a punchy environment of simple playfulness.

In summary, the designers said, “Platforms with varying heights are designed to create playfulness in the spaces.” Altogether, the design follows a minimalistic as well as a seek approach.
