An everyday urban retreat, is an apt description for this home in the heart of Bangalore. At the Sea Breeze Home, tangible materiality, riveting design and an open beach spatial sensibility assume center-stage. The visual palette was a fortuitous observation snapped up by the client’s unintentional gravitation towards teals and blues. Home to a lovely couple and their six year old son, this apartment is designed as an urban retreat to transport you into a seaside holiday.

This two bedroom home is a cool and cozy welcome into the lives of Mr. Arvind and Mrs. Nagashree. Studio Skapa conjures an understated sanctuary tethered to the souls of this nuclear family. Doused in teals and immersed in tactile spatial experiences, this project is close to Ar. Charita Kishore Rupa’s heart.
“Our homes are client centric sanctuaries, a collection of space that entail a different world altogether. The clients envisioned residing in a space that was contemporary, peppered with crisp details, and cool in its persona. Arvind and Nagashree had been residing in the apartment for a few years now. Revamping a familiar and comfortable environment to entertain the fresh and new was a fun challenge to work through. Details are harmonized by an understated luxe character, all while functionality assumes paramount importance” , explained Ar. Charita Kishore Rupa.
Renovating homes at any scale, period or location starts from the entrance, setting the tone for everything that follows the transition. True to this, a deep teal door swings open to the light and breezy apartment ahead. With white walls and neutral hues of furniture the color blue becomes the lively protagonist narrating the experience. A simple white cabinet for shoes accompanied by a floating bench for access and functionality concludes the cozy foyer.
A happy coincidence on site, the terrazzo flooring the team discovered after the laminate was removed, fit just right with the articulately curated moodboard for this project. Taking it forward, a few coats of polish was all the terrazzo needed to be good to go, saving time and money.
The tasteful nuance of wainscoting acts as the ideal backdrop against which all familial activities unfold. A medley of existing furniture and the addition of handpicked sofas sourced from MIMI homes added to the overall aesthetic. Incorporating the undertones and bubbly visage of art made by the client’s sister, Ashwini Veeresh an artist, cast the design stimulus into a personal and dear light. The neutral tinged Jaipur rugs and the blue pop of drop light from Glowing Lights, tie in the space together seamlessly.
The dining table for instance was retained and highlighted with Rattan pendant lights from Bamboopecker alongside the Blue crockery unit with fluted glass. Floating ledges in deep and rich wood escort the stand alone Bar console dovetailed with warm and earthy details.
Interior design is as much introducing elements as it is recognising and correcting old mistakes. Owing to that statement, the kitchen was a long and lonely existence, completely walled off from the integrated living and dining spatial layout. The structural elements that previously weren’t a help to the designers posed as a framed puncture to connect the expanse of the kitchen through the means of a chic Blue Duco breakfast counter designed by the team at Studio Skapa.
Artwork of the Bougainvillea by Ashwini Veeresh neighbours the Breakfast counter threading the Blues and pinks into a tapestry that will remain evergreen. Hemnil Tiles Studio, with their charming and seemingly hand painted tiles built character into the White and Teak kitchen cabinetry.
An eggshell white unit adjacent to the Breakfast counter, painted in a rustic and raw texture with clean minimalist design interferences comprises the Pooja unit with ample storage
The unit was custom made with a large niche for the idol and 3 smaller niches inundating it for the diyas. Accessible from the Dining and flowing into the Balcony, the spaces were now more akin. Absorbing extant furniture and accessories into the design stimulus is not only being fiscally responsible but also a source of inspiration to the designers onboard.
Jamb lining the entryways to the kitchen and balcony with similar detail and refinements completed the tapestry of a seaside vacation home. The floating Teak wood vanity with an iconic yet muted terrazzo blue basin and matt gold faucet accompanied by a organic framed mirror and a planter drop light from Purple Turtles tot up this creation.
The agrarian and elemental Master bedroom hosts a custom solid wood bed with side tables. The chest of drawers beside the windows, lined with soft curtains and floral artwork contributed to the pops of Peach in Pastel shades throughout the space.
Off white Wardrobes with detailed grooves and smooth wooden handles complete the space and its sophisticated barnside tendencies.
This opulent arrangement spills into the two bedrooms of this residential layout. The master bath with its antique bronze fittings, Grey and White printed tiles frame a picturesque scene.
Every colour comes with its own shades and tints ranging from mature to playful, sombre to fun. The dark wood bed with pull out spare features utilitarian ideation.
Pairing interior design aspects such as wallpaper and wall panelling with lively and light hearted hues of blue is a tenuous task that was gracefully handled by the design team at Studio Skapa.
The son’s bedroom integrated a more cheerful and lighthearted Blue for the Wardrobes and Study lining the window. Linen drapery imparted texture to the theme.
