The 40-year-old ancestral home renovation project, which spanned 5400 sq.ft, presented us with the unique challenge of preserving the memories of our client while simultaneously updating the home to modern-day design standard.

The complaint from the client was that although there was light available from all sides of the house, there were many internal spaces that were dark and unwelcoming. In order to create a more balanced and brighter environment as well as an elegant design, we opted for a white gypsum false ceiling in combination with a grey, brown and beige colour palette. The Burberry Beige italian marble flooring not only adds a touch of sophistication, but it additionally upgrades the entire environment.

We also installed white sleek and modern aluminium sliding doors and windows that not only add to the aesthetics of the house but are also energy-efficient, termite proof and easy maintenance.

Since the property was 40 years old, there was only one air conditioner. Thus, the HVAC system was upgraded to meet modern standards and current environment needs. We also added the current style of interior lighting such as Cob’s, downlights, focused lights, track lights, indirect and direct profile lights that expertly blended the functional with the decorative. The entire house was only furnished with blinds on windows which were best-of-class and allowed the flexibility of filtered light into the spaces.

Diverting from our usual practice of using different paint colours on walls, we instead added subtle but beautifully designed wallpapers for different areas that brought life and personality to the home.

We were committed to salvaging whatever we could, such as the beautiful and timeless rosewood bed that we expertly revamped to bring it up to modern standards.

The old stone and marble kitchen was upgraded to a modular kitchen with Moroccan themed tiles, installed with the latest appliances- hooded chimney, undercounter water filter, in-situ 4 burner HOB, double door fridge, dishwasher, front load washing machine and a double bowl kitchen sink.

Most of the other furniture was new- Italian marble top dining table, breakfast table with complimenting chairs, elegant lounge furniture, armchairs, coffee table, shoe cabinet, inbuilt modular wardrobe, beds, profile shutter cabinets etc.

To ensure the safety of our client and their family, we updated the home security features, including the latest in-home surveillance technology, digital locks etc. Lastly to retain the ethos of the ancestral home, the large dining area wall was donned with family photographs that brought back memories for the clients with track light to highlight the same.

Overall, we were able to successfully transform the ancestral home into a beautiful and functional space that retains the cherished memories of our client, while also incorporating the latest in modern-day design trends.
