Mexican-Inspired Interiors Meet All-Day Dining at The Seventh Floor designed by White Tree Architects
Architects Sachi Lunia Lunkad and Shreyansh Lunkad of White Tree Architects designed The Seventh Floor. The contemporary restaurant spans 5,286 sq. ft. in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. The project features a dual-zone dining space with both indoor and outdoor seating. It caters to a modern urban crowd seeking a distinct yet functional dining environment. The design approach establishes a clear visual identity while incorporating practical, climate-responsive solutions suited to the local context.
The overall interior theme draws inspiration from Mexican geography and architectural visual cues. Earthy, warm tones create a monochromatic palette, while recurring cactus motifs add a distinct visual character. The design integrates these elements across surfaces, décor, and spatial features to maintain consistency throughout the restaurant. The material and colour palette remain grounded, allowing the thematic elements to stand out without overwhelming the space.
The Seventh Floor Grounds Urban Dining In Earthy Mexican Inspired Interior | White Tree Architects
The spatial experience begins with the transition into the outdoor seating area, designed with adaptability in mind. A retractable roof system allows the space to respond to varying weather conditions and remain usable across seasons. Kota stone flooring runs throughout the restaurant. The team developed a custom-designed patterned prototype that spreads across the floor like a continuous carpet. This approach combines durability and easy maintenance with a cohesive visual ground. It also supports functionality and long-term operational efficiency while guiding visitors further into the restaurant.
Moving into the indoor seating space, the design introduces a more dynamic visual layer through a Mexican Macaw Parrot-themed accent wall. Artist Shilpi Verma designed the installation using FRP (Fibre Reinforced Plastic) elements. The team developed it as a flexible display surface that anchors the dining area visually. Projector mapping allows the team to modify the wall’s colours and visual compositions as required. This enables periodic updates to the interior without physical alterations.
The ceiling further reinforces the theme through custom-designed patterns featuring Mexican palms and other flora and fauna. The team printed these patterns on canvas fabric and applied them as perforated panels to enhance acoustic performance. This approach extends the visual language across the vertical surfaces.
Integrated into the same wall, the DJ booth sits within a raised nook inspired by traditional Mexican balcony design elements. Its elevated position offers a clear and uninterrupted sightline across the lower level. This reinforces its role within the spatial hierarchy.
Adjacent to the seating zones, the bar counter acts as a prominent functional and visual element within the restaurant. The curvy elevations of the bar table draw inspiration from Mexican rocky geography. The design team finished it in Italian marble, creating a refined material contrast while ensuring durability and easy maintenance. Its placement supports efficient service circulation and acts as a central anchor that connects different parts of the indoor layout.
Next to that, in addition to dining functions, the restaurant incorporated a dedicated DJ space, strategically positioned to overlook the main seating areas. Designed to accommodate live music and curated sound experiences, this element allows the venue to transition between different operational modes, supporting both regular dining and event-based usage without spatial disruption.
The washrooms are accessed as a continuation of this internal flow and maintain consistency with the overall design language. Here, the Mexican theme is interpreted through the use of 3D textured tiles. along with the warm tones flowing across the space. These tiles form a feature wall that integrates with mirror elements, creating a defined visual focal point within an otherwise utilitarian space as signage through the phrase “Oh! God”.
Across the space, emphasis has been placed on combining thematic design with practical considerations. Material choices, such as Kota stone and Italian marble, along with design interventions like the retractable roof and adaptable wall installations, are aligned with maintenance, durability, and flexibility requirements. The integration of cultural references with contemporary techniques allows the space to achieve a balanced and cohesive identity.
The Seventh Floor reflects a structured design approach where visual elements, material selection, and functional requirements are addressed simultaneously. The result is a restaurant environment that supports both day-to-day operations and a consistent spatial experience for its users.
