The Barnyard Co. Echoes Hospitality Through Eclectic Interior Style | Mudra Design Studio
From the oxidized corten steel signage to the entryway facade of upcycled bottles, The Barnyard Co. piques curiosity from the start. Inside, salvaged materials and local artefacts are granted a new purpose, conferring a curated, heterogeneous charm. Bhargade has crafted the space as an unpretentious “loft house,” evoking the inclusivity of a barnyard while allowing regulars to make themselves at home.
Walking through the entryway, a dynamic ceiling made of pallet wood strips directs you into the main space. The wooden boxes were collected from fruit vendors in farmers’ markets and repurposed in this hallway. Right from the beginning, the sense of adaptive reuse and a sensitivity to sustainable ideas is evident in the space. Hallways lined with sourced objects and art build intrigue before revealing the expansive mezzanine dining area. A muted palette of brick, wood, and steel provides an informal yet modern backdrop.
Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the space in sunlight and verdant views. A central courtyard offers an urban oasis surrounded by versatile seating options. Upstairs, the mezzanine’s shared tables and relaxed living area exude homespun hospitality. Additionally, touches like raw floors and copious greenery enhance the residential aura.
Locally procured doors and vintage city maps exhibit Ahmedabad’s heritage while artworks by regional talent find new venues. Moreover, these additions root the cafe in its geographical and cultural context. Additionally, salvaged furniture, vintage switches, and upcycled textiles imbue sustainability and charm. Considered lighting shifts from pendants meeting function to sconces imparting warmth. Moreover, on the northern wall, a pair of vintage wardrobe doors get a new identity as a piece of art.
Right below, an old dining table from Jogeshwari squares off the space as a coffee table. Its legs were shortened to suit the new scale of the seating area. Additionally, the glass top encases a couple of vintage movie posters sprinkled with a few coffee beans that are used in this cafe. Moreover, the cafe is punctuated with reincarnated items that get a new lease of life.
By night, the cafe becomes a creative epicenter for pop-ups, performances and community. Additonally, the flexible layout grants multifunctional possibilities. Skylights and openings maintain connections to the outdoors, while layered lighting caters to varied gatherings.
Through its tapestry of repurposed and regional ingredients, The Barnyard Co. stands as a singular sanctuary. Moreover, Mudra Design Studio has woven local inspiration into a timeless yet modern space for coming together. Within its industrial walls lies the welcoming heart of the barnyard with its eclectic interior style. Thus, beckoning all to make this unique oasis their own. Through the myriad of elements carefully curated and placed around the interiors, this industrialist cafe offers a one-of-its-kind experience to the residents of Ahmedabad.
