Serenity Lavish – A Modern Home Yet Timeless In It’s Nature | Shreya Patel Designs

Serenity Lavish- An apartment building located in Science city area in AhmedabadGujarat, is a 3BHK apartment, approximately 2300 sq.ft. I was approached by the clients, a sweet family of 4, to design a home that speaks to them. The concept of the house was simplicity. The clients wanted to make Serenity Lavish – a modern home yet timeless in its nature, a home that has warmth but yet feels airy and light and not too filled up and cramped. The brief was to have one bedroom turned into a home office for the couple, have one master bedroom and a twin bedroom for their two young daughters.

Serenity Lavish – A Modern Home Yet Timeless In It’s Nature | Shreya Patel Designs

The living room is the first space you see when you enter the house. The space has a very modern feel to it, but with a few interesting design elements that feel very timeless and draw inspiration from our traditional Indian design elements.

The space feels light and open but yet inviting and warm. The play of wood and black, monotone fabrics, with a touch of green, is what really ties the whole space. The living room area extends to a Dining and Informal lounge area. The clients and I were very clear on not giving any partitions separating these spaces, to really bank on the scale of these areas and make it look much larger than they really were.

The dining table has a wood top and metal support in pwd coating, with chairs that were polished black to create contrast and character and tie it with the rest of the living room area which also have a similar design theme.

The lounge, which is an extension of the living room and Dining room, was a space the client wanted to keep completely bare and empty, for when they host a lot of people because they wanted a space where children can run around and if required chairs can be brought and put for seating. I wanted to respect their requirement but at the same time give the room a focal point and also something that can be used for lounging, hence the Diwan came into play, and safe to say it’s my favorite furniture piece of the entire house.

The Kitchen is moody, yet simple. I always wanted to experiment with greys and blacks in a Kitchen, and since I was using a lot of black elements, it made complete sense to use that in the Kitchen too. T

he shutters are a mix of white and grey, and the breakfast counter is the highlight, painted in black, it really stands bold and makes a statement. The breakfast counter became such a highlight in this house, sitting in the middle of the two living room, it’s definitely something you cannot miss.

The Puja is right opposite the main door, so you see it first thing right in front of you every time you enter the house. The entrance to this area has an archway that leads you into the puja. The clients wanted to add some seasonal extra storage to utilize an otherwise dead space.

The clients were also surprisingly okay with a modern puja, which is really simple but also has some impact to it and that is how we decided to use this really bold wallpaper with Pichwai elements that also really complements the metal partition that was custom created for this area.

One of the three bedrooms was designed as a home office. The clients did not want it to look super formal and have a typical office cabin vibe, hence this office was designed with elements like arches to add character.

The table has  beautiful wooden carved legs which is polished black, and the built in storage acts as a perfect backdrop to that table painted in a beautiful shade that gives the office a sense of serenity and calmness.

The one thing anyone would want is to feel a sense of calm when you enter your room. The colors used in this room are so soft and dreamy that it immediately relaxes your senses, and that’s exactly what the clients wanted to have after a long day of work and taking care of two toddlers.

This happens to be my favorite room in the whole house! A room so perfect for two young girls. It really draws inspiration from Paris. It’s chic and pretty.

The brief was to design it in a way that it really speaks to the client’s daughters, who love Pink, but at the same time did not want something that’s overbearing. The room ended up looking so beautiful and dainty and dreamy. Just like a summer evening in Paris!
