Routine Affaire Showcases Bar Architecture Through A Bohemian Reinvention | Studio Pravee

In the heart of Delhi’s western suburbs, where the city’s pulse softens into the embrace of greenery, Routine Affaire emerges as a canvas of reinvention. Conceived by Studio Pravee, the 3200-sqft culinary space, spanning two floors, turns the page from a former sheesha lounge to a bohemian dreamscape brimming with life and layered with expressive bar architecture. “The restaurateur envisioned its transformation into an all-day dining where people from all walks of life could come for moments of respite”, avers Prashant Mallick, who conceptualised the project alongside co-founders and principal architects Gaurav Das Swer and Prateek Rajput.

Editor’s Note: “Routine Affaire embraces mood, memory, and materiality by reinventing ordinary dining. Every detail, from rattan and macrame to jute lights and butterflies, defies the expected, balancing softness and structure. Transcending trends, this Bohemian retreat offers an immersive experience that flows just like conversations.” ~ Anusha Sridhar

Realigning the circulation without disrupting structural integrity posed a conundrum. “A task that demanded precision and care”, remarks Prateek. “But seeing the vision come to life made it all worthwhile.”

Natural Materials and Soft Tones

What unfolds is a symphony of pink sandstone hues, rattan-laden furnishings, jute lights, and whimsical elements, all within a scheme of dynamic curves. “We leaned into an easy going palette with natural materials to blend seamlessly with the lush surroundings,” notes Gaurav. It’s clear to see. Organic textures abound, establishing a tactile spectacle. Daylight filters through strategic panes, creating a dialogue between indoor and outdoor. No matter the hour, the space hums with a quiet vibrancy, ready to host moments of ease and enjoyment.

Bar Area

The ground floor houses a centrally aligned bar, flanked by varied seating arrangements. From the sheesham wood chairs to the metal cum cane butterflies suspended overhead, every piece of furniture and decor is customised to a T, illustrating Studio Pravee’s creative prowess that spans both spatial and product design.

Not to miss, even the bespoke printed linen cushions. Smooth plaster paint weaves across, coating the retained original columns and the bar counter, where a sculptural effect is achieved with sinuous layers of HDHMR boards.

Visitors are ushered into the adjacent atrium through a series of dried grass-fringed arches—a poetic prelude to the ground floor’s pièce de résistance. Encased in toughened glass framed with MS, the atrium’s transparent shell creates a striking visual connection with the outdoors. As a result, the bougainvillea tree becomes a living artwork—a backdrop that continuously evolves with the seasons.

A Play of Texture and Light

An inviting ensemble of sofas orients inward, establishing a strong sense of spatial connection. Meanwhile, a pinewood-floored platform elevates the volume and introduces a layer of refined intimacy. Decca World’s oversized macrame lights amplify the area’s splendour, pairing beautifully with the sheen of flowing drapes.

The journey upstairs is no less captivating, with risers clad in artisanal green subway tiles – a hue chosen to mirror the encircling foliage. Pinewood treads extend the organic warmth, making the act of ascending feel like a step closer to nature.

Upon reaching the first floor, one is greeted by a quirky niche wall that cleverly conceals a service staircase. The oblong layout presented a challenge, but one solved with function and flair – an enclosed area that offers a cozy retreat and effortlessly transitions onto the terrace through a sliding door for outdoor relaxation, both zones unified by stone-finish tiles underfoot.

Comfort and Conversation on the Terrace

Inside, whimsy meets sophistication—floral fabric lights and geometric visages inject a playful spirit into the neutral spectrum. Textured paint envelops the walls, while an array of arched cutouts brings in an architectural punch.

Casual elegance lingers in the terrace, decked with lightweight rattan chairs that beckon comfort and conversation. Classical design motifs orchestrate the dance stage with meticulous detail, adding an eclectic twist to the calming atmosphere.

Above, a crisscrossed bamboo framework drapes the alfresco in an interplay of light and shade, enhanced by metal mesh lights. Tapered white pillars punctuate the soft pink walls, and a sheesha counter, fashioned from stacked cement blocks, anchors the milieu with a raw appeal.

Here, every detail works in harmony to create a space that feels both energetic and welcoming, offering a rare escape from the ordinary. With a curation of considerate design choices that emphasize user experience, Studio Pravee proves that an epicurean destination can be both a sanctuary and a statement.
