Inside the Four-Bedroom Home That Redefines Urban Living | Studio Orange
This four bedroom residence focuses on an inward-facing social core and daylight within a protected interior spine. The client’s enthusiasm for hosting favoured flexible, open-plan resulting in a house that feels expansive and inward-facing, where light, air, and greenery are choreographed through a continuous central void. The design delivers a private, dust-free urban retreat that celebrates vertical openness and an interior landscape as the emotional core of the home.
Client – focused Design – We have approached the project using a detailed questionnaire and shaped the functional and aesthetic of this residence to the specific needs of the client.
The goal was to create a comfortable, inward-facing open-plan. At the heart of the plan is the staircase and spill out: that functions as circulation and visual anchor. Public functions—kitchen, dining, and living—open toward the spill out on the first floor, allowing flexible entertaining and effortless flow.
The living with a high ceiling, large road-facing panelled windows that preserve natural light while avoiding direct sightlines from the road is treated as a design asset rather than a liability. The focus is on privacy, acoustic comfort, vertical proportion, daylight control, and a clear zoning strategy so the space feels intimate despite its openness.
Replacing exterior balconies, an indoor garden occupies the spill out base. Plant species are chosen for low maintenance, indoor tolerance, and air-purifying qualities. The garden creates a sensory core that brings nature inside without compromising privacy and dust.
The garden moderate’s temperature and humidity, traps dust within a controlled envelope, and improves indoor air quality—delivering the sensory benefits of landscape without exposing interiors to street dust or overlooking neighbours.
In this project the material and texture for the three planes, the floor, the wall and the ceiling used is a monochromatic palette and reflective glossy finishes to create a psychological sense of massive space.
A sculptural marble cladded wall with seating and landscape preserves sightlines while also concealing the powder room underneath it. The staircase at this residence, emphasizes transparency with wooden open risers and serves as the spine of the home, both structurally and visually.
The staircase and guest bedroom panelling is designed to create a sense of depth and balance within the space. The panelled wall treatment creates an interior horizon and reduces the perceived height.
