It is when simplicity coups within and minimalism emulates the ethos, Ar. Kaushal Singhal, designed his personal residence submerged in the ripples of sustainability, and echoing biophilic architecture in the urbane settings. Faced by the extremities of pandemic, the home is weaved through natural and local materials rooting the essence of the space. The personality of the home is reflected through the characters of the humans residing within, and is a classic example on how shared aims have mirrored on shaping the energy of the home.

Expanding a home beyond the borders of its rooms is a growing trend in modern residential architecture. Glass facades are mainly driven by the pursuit for opening up a home towards the surrounding natural landscape, as well as for ensuring a high level of transparency and allowing natural light inside. When glass dominates a home, the result is a borderless residence that syncs with its environs, creating a stunning, new visual and psychological sense of space. The versatile material creates ambiance and connect with the outdoors.

Airy and capacious—the home models a white base palette enlivened with splashes of acolours and materials. The home opens to three storeys connected through an atrium creating a striking visual connect. The informal waiting lobby on the ground floor is surrounded by a backdrop of outdoor garden and a projection of indoor garden emphasising the nuances of sophisticated reflection.

Through clean lines and monochromatic simplicity to life, the triple height atrium folds the floor plates into one envelope and accentuates the beauty of verticality by a hierarchy of chandeliers and a concrete background wall.

Crafted blooms with vivid graphic patterns and prints on rattan finish tailored furniture, the informal living space decodes the charm of the space. While walnut ribbed wooden ceiling overlooks the chic stairway through a Brooklyn partition. This space narrates freedom through the colour palette, material glossary and a relaxed furniture design.

The living room is crisply segregated from the dining through Brooklyn partition. The space has an eclectic ambience, showcasing defined furniture with clean fabrics and soothing palate of greys, powder blue and clay.

A well-crafted backdrop of textured wallpaper and classic wall lamps captures the attention in the room. The space is well collected with the overall warm environment generated with bespoke and subtle furniture design and forms.

Sumptuous furniture is paired with lustrous hints of gold, and this combination is balanced with the organic richness of wood flooring. Graphite Rug contributes to and adds a level of warmth and comfort.

The visual expression is constructed using white washed surfaces, warm tones and a muted colour palette with scattered indoor plants. The dining pulls the axial cord of epicentre. The formal dining space overlooks the niche cabinet library adjacent to the prayer space.

The regal dining table showcases the local artisanship. The gloss finished hand painted table top, the turquoise carved wooden legs and the antique chairs compliments the Zen chromatic atmosphere of the space. Adding to the lexis, the eccentric hanging lights are designed in a way to highlight important elements, surfaces and art.

Master bedroom narrative is erected on meticulously natural teak furniture emphasised with wine shade soft furnishing. Exclusivity is translated through striking textured surface techniques, and a well-curated handicraft television unit.

The Victorian chair and a bench create compelling compositions and, collectively, an exquisite living environment. The soft touch of greys are pacified along the wooden furniture and the tranquil setting allows the nature to flow within the large opening adding freshness to the room.

The son’s bedroom is an ultimate blue retreat, a serene bedroom, reflective of the personality of the dweller. The room features dark and densely carved television unit flushed along light tones of greys with a geometric wall backdrop.

A peaceful room with midnight grey upholstery and complimenting blue bed covers. Tying everything together is the clean ceiling design with minimal lights. Incorporation of wide openings allow one to overlook the surroundings and hence sketching the entire room as a timeless picturesque.

An earthy palette is juxtaposed with vibrant artworks set against a backdrop of wooden sloping roof and pattern flooring is the daughter’s bedroom. An alcove with vintage Recamier in custom pink fabric is embossed along the mint green background.

The expansive stretch of balcony illustrates the colour and material theme of the bedroom. Accentuated with small indoor plants, the space sings of natural functionality and an organic display of musings.

The double height with sloping roof opens to the entertainment room that combines modern and minimalist aesthetics. The intent was to generate generous and elegant longitudinal spread that fits for the family to enjoy the informal raw setting.

A large exposed brick wall is set against a concrete panelled surface, and wooden sloping roof .It highlights the rustic material palette effortlessly and complements the monochromatic furniture. The carpet flooring is stretched towards the cantilevered balcony allowing the access of exterior visions and daylight within the space.

Across the home, a largely neutral palette is subtly layered with various textures in handcrafted furniture, wall paints and art works. The distinct sections flow into each other through vertical functionality and appears like one cohesive unit, all while maintaining their characteristic purpose.

The home is a perfect blend of modern minimalism joining design forces with the local extracted materials. Also richly crafted with exclusive Victorian furniture yet exuding harmony and calmness through fine color codes.  The abode impresses with their balanced composition of material, colors, layout, and patterns and how it evokes a modification in the design practice of Kolkata, the Architect definitely succeeded in bringing all together within a glass envelope surrounded by nature.
