Iki (粋) evokes the Japanese spirit of refined simplicity, quiet sophistication, and effortless style, while Veda (वेद) carries the depth of ancient Indian wisdom, culture, and heritage. Together, Iki Veda forms a design philosophy where minimalism is enriched with meaning and serenity is shaped through tradition. It is a harmonious blend of soft forms, soulful textures, and intentional living, where elegance feels natural. Iki Veda becomes more than a style; it is a mindful way of inhabiting space.
Nestled in the heart of Powai, IkiVeda is a residence that embodies a rare sense of poetic restraint. Designed by JK Design Studio, the 2BHK home blends Japanese aesthetics with Indian tactile warmth. The name combines Iki, meaning quiet sophistication, and Veda, symbolizing Indian wisdom and heritage.
Together, these philosophies of intentional living shape a living environment that is serene, intelligent, and deeply human.
Intentional Living And Minimalism Reflect In This Simple Home | JK Design Studio
The house reveals itself gradually, echoing the Japanese principle of spatial storytelling and intentional living. Soft arches, diffused lighting, textured walls, and curated art add calm and subtle interest. This transitional zone introduces the home’s overarching tone—minimal, contemplative, yet unmistakably warm.
As the passage leads into the living room, the space opens into a quiet sanctuary. A muted grey sectional anchors the room, softened by rounded edges and layered cushions in ivory, sage, and clay. Warm wood flooring frames the seating area, while an organic coffee table and handcrafted decor add natural, poetic character.
The room’s most striking architectural gesture is the sculpted TV wall. Formed by vertical, folded panels with a plaster-like finish, it mimics the gentle undulations of fabric or traditional Japanese screens. This interplay of curves and shadows introduces a sense of movement while maintaining the minimal palette that defines the home. Below, a low wooden ledge provides continuity, balancing the soft textures above with material richness. Near the sofa, a trio of circular wall sconces provides warm, diffused lighting. They function as lighting fixtures while also serving as sculptural design elements. Indoor greens inject a sense of vitality, standing in contrast to the otherwise neutral backdrop.
The dining area becomes the heart of the home’s cultural dialogue. The space is defined by a serene, Japandi-inspired palette—soft whites, warm woods, and diffused light that create a meditative backdrop. At the centre sits a handcrafted low dining table, rooted in Japanese tradition, paired with dome-shaped floor cushions that echo the organic silhouettes found throughout the home. Sculptural wooden pendant lights above introduce movement and craftsmanship, balancing restraint with character.
On one side, a carved niche wall featuring the Navkar Mantra becomes a moment of quiet reverence. The arches, circular recesses, and hand-placed artefacts speak to Indian rituals of display, while the minimal composition keeps the room grounded in Japanese simplicity. Together, they form a spiritual anchor of intentional living—subtle, contemplative, and deeply personal.
Across the dining space, a vibrant hand-painted artwork featuring peacocks and botanical motifs adds a burst of Indian narrative. The piece introduces colour without overwhelming the calm palette. It bridges traditional Indian art with the home’s softened Japandi sensibility.
In the master bedroom of IkiVeda, serenity takes shape through an interplay of clean geometry, warm materials, and a distinctly Indo-Japanese dialogue. The space embraces a quiet, composed palette—soft neutrals, muted greens, and natural wood tones—that evoke the calming restraint of Japanese interiors while retaining the tactile warmth of Indian craft.
An arched niche anchors the room, curving gently into a bespoke study corner that blends sculptural softness with functional clarity. The floating desk, rounded edges, and seamlessly integrated shelving give the space a sense of effortless harmony. Textured wooden cabinetry with woven-inspired panels adds a layer of subtle material richness, grounding the minimal aesthetic in craftsmanship.
Lighting plays a poetic role: a delicate woven pendant descends beside the bed, casting a diffused glow reminiscent of traditional lanterns. On the opposite wall, brass accents introduce a refined Indian warmth without overwhelming the visual stillness.
Every object—sculptural figures, curated books, minimalist animal art—sits with intention, celebrating both cultures’ shared appreciation for simplicity, symbolism, and storytelling. The room becomes not just a place to rest, but a meditative sanctuary that embodies the philosophy of IkiVeda: where Japanese calm meets Indian soul for intentional living.
The kids bedroom in IkiVeda extends the home’s Indo-Japanese narrative with a softer, more playful sensibility—yet still rooted in the project’s calm, minimal aesthetic. The palette remains warm and neutral, allowing textures and handcrafted elements to speak with quiet clarity. A low bed frame grounds the space in Japanese spatial traditions, while its plush upholstery and layered fabrics contribute a comforting, cocoon-like feel ideal for a child’s sanctuary.
Along one wall, a curated arrangement of sculptural discs introduces a subtle graphic rhythm—artful yet understated. In contrast, the custom camel mural becomes the room’s most expressive moment. Inspired by Japanese wall art traditions but reimagined through Indian motifs, it celebrates regional storytelling with vibrant ornamentation, earthy tones, and a touch of whimsy. The mural sits adjacent to the daybed niche, making it a charming backdrop for reading, play, or quiet downtime.
Natural light filters through bamboo blinds, reinforcing the connection to organic materials. Thoughtfully proportioned wardrobes in warm wood create functional storage while maintaining the room’s serene continuity with the rest of the home. Every detail—from the minimal tea set to the gentle layering of cushions—reflects a design language that is playful without being loud, elegant without being adult.
This bedroom becomes a space where cultural narratives, comfort, and creativity coexist—perfectly embodying the philosophy behind IkiVeda: a home where Japanese restraint meets Indian warmth in a way that feels intimate, modern, and timeless.
The result is not just a residence, but an experience. IkiVeda stands as a contemporary sanctuary in the urban fabric of Powai—one that encourages slow living, thoughtful movement, and visual tranquility. It is a home that invites pause, inspires calm, and celebrates the beauty of cultures blending seamlessly into one another.
By merging Japanese aesthetics with Indian narrative, JK Design Studio has crafted a home that feels timeless, intimate, and deeply personal. IkiVeda is a testament to the power of design when simplicity is revered and authenticity is honored—a quiet masterpiece that lingers long after one leaves its embrace.
