We were approached by the amazing Gharat family in 2021 for their newly acquired home – an apartment design in the upcoming and bustling area of Bandra East, Mumbai in a prominent building. The early discussion led to a dilemma whether to go for builder provided flooring or take a complete bare shell. We convinced our client to go for the latter and give us a bare playground to design completely as per their taste and preferences. The home is occupied by a family of 5 (parents, son and grandparents).

The client gave us one clear brief, that their new home should be warm and welcoming for everyone staying as well as any person visiting their space. They wanted a clutter free home that was designed to balance the aesthetic and functional aspects.
The entrance to the flat is an elegant door with linear design formations finished in veneer with matt polish. We created a small bench along with a shoe unit to provide an additional storage. The passage leading to the door were also cladded with black veneer to provide a cohesive look to the space.
The living space is divided into 3 zones, a formal seating, an informal seating space and a dining space. Each of these zones were differently designed an accessorized to fulfill the purpose of the space.
We designed and made a console on site for the formal zone with an oblong mirror above it to add character and depth to the space.
The informal zone is a cozy nook with a tv unit that provides as the entertainment corner of the living.
The dining is a central space between the formal and informal that is tastefully designed. This space is also caters as a reading corner and a workspace along with dining space. The entire flooring of this zone is from the brand nexion. (sofia grey).
The kitchen color combination was that of sage green and a freckled white counter stone from kalinga stone (cmc). We made the entire kitchen on site leaving the shutters that were made with perfect edge bandings in a workshop and later assembled on site. Lighter color tones aids in giving the kitchen a much lighter look and feel.
The grandparent’s room has been designed minimally, to avoid any clutter due to their age factor. The room is mostly monochromatic with a pop of color added to the headboard to add vibrancy to the space.
The attached washroom has been done up in a single tile type for floor and walls. (runa beige from nexion)
Their son is a big car fanatic and was very clear in his brief that he wanted a dedicated space in the room just to showcase his collection. We adhered to this by providing a complete open niche in an open grain veneer with defused led lights to add.
The room has been done in neutral and subdued color tones. We provided a foldable study ledge for his room as he mostly works from home. An oversized artwork adds a lot of grace to the space. His bathroom was done up in the theme of black and white.
The master bedroom color palette is an anatomy of a tree. Light wood textures, with a bit of brown through wooden flooring and a splash of pastel green. We provided a long ledge / counter for working / reading purposes.
We have provided separate dedicated storages for the couple. The color palette flows through the master bathroom as well in a combination of green and nudes.
The overall look and feel to the space is very warm , comforting and it’s been designed to make everyone that visits feel right at HOME.

For architect duo Rakshanda Moog and Dev Thakkar of Den Studio, designing their first home (and debut interior project) came together the way most meaningful things do. Gradually and instinctively. “We started with minimalism,” they say, “but somewhere along the way, the house asked for more character.” Perched on an upper floor with unobstructed views […]

The Wabi Sabi Interior design of this residence was done in 71 days, including designing & execution. Contrary to our standard practice of a step-by-step design process, the process here was pretty fluid & more based on intuitions, visualizations, sketches & discussions. Only sketches were made, which proceeded to working drawings; no 3D visualization was […]
