  • An Aesthetically Pleasing, Breathable and Easy-To-Maintain Cosy Home | The DesignBOX

A family of three generations with a simple lifestyle wanted an aesthetically pleasing, breathable, and easy-to-maintain cozy home. A house that’s nothing over the top but has the right amount of opulence and comfort. A poetic combination of marble, textures, and wood has been used to create a classy milieu for the client.

The Door of the house leads into an entryway with a wavy and staggered teakwood ceiling. The schematics of the ceiling can completely transform the house. This sculptural wooden ceiling has unconventional and arresting details making the wooden waves look elegant.

The entire aesthetics of the ceiling using wood is very intriguing giving an edge to the look and feel of the house. The ceiling and the wall facing the door are meticulously designed with undulating lines giving it a visual appeal

A distinguished amalgamation of veined and mulberry marble with breaks of American walnut wood grains creates a perfect background for that leather couch, cozy enough to sip that cup of coffee.

The geometry of this cladded wall freshens the use of natural materials, making the space aesthetically balanced for the client who wanted minimal décor and wall art.

Instead of a soft backdrop, the architects have created a bold context for the furniture and décor. Bespoke coffee tables with houndstooth patterned veneer by Venzowood adds to the charm of the space. Articulation of these natural materials adds verve to this contemporary apartment making a resonating statement.

The dining table arrangement is unconventional. This 5-seater dining table has seats on 3 sides – a 3-seater bench and 2 head chairs. The architects decided to make use of this arrangement to design and execute a bespoke dining table with a marble top and a fashionable gold base.

Two flats combined in this old construction apartment, with limited ceiling height left a beam running throughout the length of the flats.  With such a challenge, Shilpa & Rajat decided to go with the phrase “If you can’t hide it – Flaunt it!”

A custom-made chandelier was proposed right under the beam and above the dining table that embraces the beam only to add aesthetic appeal to the layout. The dining table console was designed with A pop of plum colour complimenting the marble top of the table where a statue of Buddha sits.

Continuing the lines of a clutter-free arrangement, the Master bed is visually balanced with neutral but distinct colours and textures. This bedroom opens in a space with wardrobes to then step onto the room. The purpose was to get adequate privacy as the door opens directly into the dining table space.

The ends of the headboard are curved to enhance the geometry and layout of the space. The grey shade of the furniture is contrasted by a toned olive-brown veneer.

The den has a wide opening with two doors, custom-made door skin, and backlit handles. The purpose of this fully automated house is to make sure even at night, if there is an intimate gathering of people, the light on the door handle directs you towards the den without turning on the lights of the common area. This leaves a sense of privacy without disturbing the other members of the family.

The first look of the den gives a clutter-free impression. It was designed keeping in mind the client’s large family who customarily has a get-together to watch movies. The intent of providing minimal furniture was to amplify the use of space.

Stepped Indian sitting is proposed in this contemporary layout for those who want to have an experience of the movies on the large projector screen while the rest sit on the floor.

This informal arrangement was specified by the client and the designer made sure to incorporate it into the scheme.  Panels of thin pine pattis on the wall across the ceiling were made to bring more warmth to the room.

It was a conscious effort by the architects to make sure that despite the minimal furniture in the room, the den looked snug.  Ample ambient lighting makes it perfect for the movies.
