Bathed in natural light and layered in quiet sophistication, this duplex apartment unfolds as a retreat where contemporary design meets warmth and tactile elegance. Designed as a two level apartment, the project embraces openness and visual continuity while subtly defining spaces through texture, form, and thoughtful interior detailing.
The duplex rests on the topmost 13 th and 14 th floor of Skyline Elevate towers in Zirakpur, Punjab .The dwelling of 5 bedrooms , common spaces combined take up 3858sqft. of built up area where we designed 2700sqft of carpet space. Apartment interiors often present challenges such as limited space, low ceilings and existing builder provisions that may not meet the client’s needs. Therefore to understand the need of the client and what his vision behind buying two flats was of utmost importance.
A Punjab Duplex That Unites Two Apartments Into One Connected Home | Design Warehouse
Upon understanding that, our first instinct was to combined the two floors with an internal staircase further leading to private terrace converting it into a penthouse instead of two individual apartments. The lower floor accommodates guests and gatherings with two guest bedrooms and shared living spaces. The initial plan included a third bedroom, but the layout replaces it with a dining area and bar to open up the space and improve functionality. The floor above became a complete private space with its own living ,dining, kitchen and rooms. This segregation gave the client their privacy while the flexibility of the layout allowed them to use/modify the space as per their requirements.
The journey begins in the living space, where daylight filters softly through sheer drapery, casting a luminous glow across polished floors and textured surfaces. A richly detailed wooden wall becomes the soul of the room, its warm tones grounding the space while adding depth to it. Two shades of veneer create a subtle pattern that adds character without overpowering the space. The curved mirror reflects the light and mirrors the sheer curtains creating an illusion of expanded space.
The furniture palette remains understated and contemporary, allowing materials and textures to lead the visual narrative. The low ceilings call for a minimal approach, while a statement chandelier suspended within a circular ceiling form adds drama. Its delicate glow draws the eye upward and enhances the room’s sense of volume.Rather than relying on rigid boundaries, the home embraces a sense of continuity. A partition softly transitions the living area into the dining space, creating an architectural gesture that feels both organic and inviting. .
The dining area becomes an intimate setting for gathering, where a dark stone table contrasts beautifully with plush upholstered chairs. The curvatures of living area extend in dining as well. Addition of metal in contrast to smooth textures on walls makes the dining space unique in itself. Overhead, a constellation of cascading pendant lights forms a luminous installation, reflecting warmth and creating an atmosphere that feels both elegant and inviting. Every room extends into a private balcony connecting indoors to outdoors.
A key feature of the living area is the temple. The custom perforated wooden jali door creates a sacred enclosure for the temple while serving as a decorative partition. It filters soft light into the corridor, casting a gentle spiritual glow even when the doors remain closed.
In the private quarters, the narrative shifts to one of calm and quiet comfort. The bedrooms serve as peaceful sanctuaries, where natural light, carefully chosen neutral palettes and layered textiles create a restful atmosphere. Geometric wall panels with metallic accents, rhythmic wooden slats and vibrant wallpapers give each bedroom a distinct visual identity while maintaining harmony with the overall design language.
The guestroom on the 13 th floor offers gentleness to whoever resides in the room. The high-lacquer olive green finish adds depth to the colour palette, highlighting the oak wood panelling and fabrics.
As per the client’s brief , the parent’s room turns into a much brighter, floral moodboard. Comfort is the focus of this room. Minimal wall panelling pairs with bright floral wallpaper to add just the right amount of flair. Elegant wall lamps, exquisite bed linen and cushions further enhance the colours and complete the look.
Master bedroom embodies a sense of understated luxury. The upholstered bed with long bed back, dressed in layered bedding and cushions forms a plush and inviting centerpiece. A thoughtfully composed feature wall combines bold, textured wallpaper with wooden inlays and subtle metallic accents to add richness. An elegant arched mirror and sleek floating dresser elevate the dressing corner, balancing functionality with visual lightness. Floor to ceiling curtains with tailored patterned bands soften the generous natural light while adding a bespoke finishing touch.
he kids room was designed keeping in the mind the kids’ age and favourite colors. Pastel hexagonal shaped tiles form the background of the bed and focus of the room. The design introduces playful shapes and colours that encourage learning while keeping the room engaging for the children. Varied storage solutions organise toys and books, while an adjustable study table adapts to their growing needs. Details such as the rabbit pendant light, bear cushions and frilled curtains add a personalised touch, allowing the room to evolve gracefully as the children grow.
Throughout the duplex, the design balances smooth marble with textured walls, warm timber with soft fabrics, and sculptural curves with clean architectural lines. These contrasts give the interiors a contemporary yet timeless character.
Warm minimalism guides the design, with understated elegance, light and carefully chosen details shaping each space. Every room combines comfort, beauty and quiet luxury.
More than just a residence, the home becomes a reflection of modern and balanced living.
