  • A Lavish Dental Clinic that Defies Notions of a Medical Practice with an Aesthetic Perception | CDS architects

Situated in the heart of Nadiad, the clinic serves as a one-stop all dental solution for its patients. A lavish dental clinic that defies notions of a medical practice with an aesthetic perception and warm space setting. The clinic offers all major surgical procedures, which primarily governed the various design choices, both from the technical and aesthetic points of view like for allocating different types of surgical or operational chairs, that differ from across various processes like Consultation, General/Pediatric Dentistry, RCT and Surgical.

The structural linearity of the plan has created an opportunity to divide zones in an hierarchical manner, coercing a functional point of view. The structure of the plan creates zones like the reception and lounge as a more semi-public zone which is followed by the treatment area, which is the private zone and then followed by the ancillary zones that houses all the services related areas.

A spacious waiting and reception area with a large reception desk is designed to create a welcoming and a comforting space that will also cater to accommodate large number of patients at a time. Seating has been inspired by fluidic forms in a way that it amalgamates within the minimalistic taste to demonstrate the aesthetic qualities of the waiting area, but still giving it a vibrant essence.

The reception table is done in PU over MDF with a highlighter tile precisely cut and embedded in the front and on top. Backdrop of reception is done in extruded PVC sheet in wooden finish.

A central spine of 4 feet depth, was developed in order to cater free movement between different spaces. Cabins were placed adjacent to this passage and an OPG room in the beginning accompanied by a Lab, Resting Area, Server Room, Pantry and a Mechanical Room at the end of the plan. Highlighting this passage is a temple space, with a CNC cut MDF backdrop and indirect lighting. Custom cut fluted MDF paneling are used in the lintel area of cabins which helps diffuse the indirect lighting of the passagethat has been done composed using rope lights, profile lights and COB’s.

Consultation area has been designed for the doctor duo to sit together. A cabin space ample enough to accommodate a dental chair, a seating space along with a doctor’s table shared by two professionals, furnished in veneer and artificial quartz. Lighting in this area is kept into white tones so as to create a sense of a seamless movement.

Opposite to the consultation cabin are General Dentistry, RCT and Surgical Rooms. The surgical room has a larger area as compared to the old layout of the clinic. Furniture in these cabins are covered in PU and accompanied by matching upholstery in chairs, to set a tone and a pattern of the aesthetic development of the cabins in a more comprehensive and a cohering manner.

Laboratory and mechanical area are place at the end of the plan which has accessibility to service staircase expediting the supply of gas cylinders, equipments and other aided goods. This gives a clear cut of the from the ancillary zone, where the movement is restricted only to the personnel’s, working in the clinic and clearly defines a non-public zone.

All the major service lines like, Compressed Air, RO Water, Suction, Drain and Electrical for Dental chairs are concealed in the flooring, and other electrical and digital cabling for LAN, HDMI, CCTV, Smoke Alarms along with AC drains and inlet pipes are managed in the false ceiling which has been purposely taken at beam bottom to create a seamless space. Managing these service lines keeping in mind the existing fire sprinklers was a challenge faced while designing spaces.
