A Home That Takes One in Zen Mode, with Clean Lines and is Functional | Art Is Interior Design

Visit: Art Is Interior Design

The client, a family of three, are very hard working professionals and spend most of their time working. The owner’s brief was that they need a home that will make them feel calm, with clean lines and, is off course, functionally designed. Something which takes off the workload as soon as you enter the space and spend the rest of the day in Zen mode.

This airy modern home brought to life with beautiful Portuguese style architecture gave us a great opportunity to work with interiors. It began as a modern and minimalist home but eventually, the design incorporated subtle traditional designs by the clients. The entrance is a typical Goan style foyer with a traditional seating on both sides called as “Balcao”, a huge sliding door entrance gives a larger than life entrance to the living room. The Satvario tile from Simpolo gives the living room a rich feel making a statement to the monochromatic scheme of the house.

The living, dining and kitchen areas were a challenge as all there were interlinked and open spaces. We constantly brainstormed whether to keep it completely open or semi-open for privacy. Establishing a connection between the mandir, dining and the rest of the area and use of colours to make the space look lighter and minimalistic were a few interesting decisions with this project. The living room has neutral tones with an eye-catching Mandir design with backlit alabaster sheet from Euro Pratik which goes well with the contemporary furniture in the living and open kitchen area.

A soft grey texture wallpaper from Asian Paints on the living room wall gives the formal seating a grand yet subtle look. Kitchen was designed in Euro Pratik acrylic sheet for undercounter cabinets, Laminate from Royal Touche and kitchen top from Simpolo.

Entire home is painted in Asian Paints with white walls and ceiling. A gradual transition from white to grey leads into the private spaces of the home encompassing the Parent’s bedroom on ground floor which has nice wooden wainscoting on the wall and the same is seen on the monochromatic furniture of that space.

Comparatively smaller in size, the son’s room showcases darker colour tones for soft furnishing with a sleek, glazed wardrobe unit reflecting the modern interiors of the room to make the room appear spacious. The master bedroom is the highlight of the homemade in combination with Royale Touche laminates and pinewood finish veneer with bold maroon bed back and platform bed.

The room has a small semi closed walk-in closet with a sliding mirror wardrobe. The home seemingly adds a new colour to its palette with every room complemented by either laminate or veneer finishes. The whole home is designed and composed with laminate finishes from Royale Touche.
