The planning was quite straightforward, but it also considers interaction and the fact that this area was intended to be a commercial crucible. The design intent was to create a dynamic built volume providing a welcoming vibe for the visitors of this unique container office in Ahmedabad. The workstations are uncomplicated and tidy. The thorough planning of the functional and storage rooms is dictated by their maintenance-friendliness. The cleanliness and clutter-free maintenance of circulation channels is other benefits of adequate storage.

The fabricated office facade design revolved around the two major concerns, one being the weather condition followed by the adjacent construction site. We played with materials such as walnut coloured WPC and grey Pu finish paint on the front facade due to their nature of water and fire resistance and wear and tear quality. Furthermore, it is complemented by a landscape creating passageway leading to the curved kadappa plinth that makes one enter the office.
The built fabric consists of an entrance lobby, waiting area, multipurpose space, workstations, cabins, pantry, and a toilet. On the arrival, we see a lobby where the small waiting area is carefully crafted with a flatbed cushioned curved seating to accommodate the crowd, with the textured jute wallpaper in the background which adds grandeur to the space.
It also has a customized artwork of the client’s (builder) upcoming construction project in black and white which is then decorated with vibrant threads and paint. The seating faces the reception area which further connects to the sales cabin.
The sales cabin on the rear end is outfitted in engineered wood and hosts a customized cantilevered table overlaid with a silver grey Korean. Above it, hovers a light fixture that was specially designed to compliment the back lit wall which promotes the company identity .
The entire space is cocooned entirely in veneer, PU & Korean, with an art installation of their previous site serving to stem the monotony of its monochrome palette.
The area assigned for the workstations follow the same minimal and formal language. It is a minimal composition of wooden tables, chairs, and plants.
The hallway leads to the inner sanctuary. The backdrop is covered in natural marble in its textured state, which conjures the earth. The main grey painted PU desk is the first indication of the company’s values and philosophy; its simple design implies clarity of thought and the avoidance of the unnecessary.
In a nutshell, this work environment seeks to demonstrate innate truth by keeping the interior simple and highlighting the built experience achieved by blending functionality with the environment.
The strategy was to emphasis onto the intent using objects and the senses whilst taking the smallest details in consideration. This is one of the fundamental ideas we have followed throughout this project. It was astonishing that Dhruvi was given a free hand to pick any style and colour. “It almost felt like I was designing on a blank canvas without any absolute must-haves,” she informs. So much so, that the space feels like a reflection of her taste and personality . The beautiful sunlight that fills the space , gives this specific approach to energy and life. The office’s materiality also demonstrated the meaningful (functional) design that we aim in our work.
