Blend of traditional and contemporary interior design- wood – curves – rattan jaali – connected to roots – warm – earthy – lived-in – homely.
The designed experience of the Jigna-Dharmesh residence begins before you enter the house. Indian households traditionally do not allow outdoor footwear in the house. In apartments, this often leads to an unsightly pile of footwear in common areas, at the entrances.

Nikaya addresses this issue by integrating a well-designed storage space at the entrance, with a seat for added comfort. The modern cabinets, semi-circular well-paced mirror, and choice of muted material palette create a calming vibe.
The living room features a blend of modern and traditional design. With ample natural sunlight, clean lines and elegantly designed furniture, this space showcases the family’s ongoing transition from a traditional lifestyle to one that is more with current times.
The feature wall at the entrance, with a curved edge where it meets the ceiling, becomes a key focal point. The veneer-finished television unit is integrated into a cleverly designed display-cum-partition element that separates the living and dining area.
At Nikaya we have tried to be connected to the family’s roots with wood finishes and traditional elements, yet brought the Contemporary touch to the space which speaks about the transition of their choices.
The dining area is partially shielded from the living area for privacy but maintains a natural flow of space. The difference in spaces is further demarcated by a textured wall and a wooden ceiling that complements the material and colour palette across the house and adds warmth to the space.
The open kitchen features modern, minimalist cabinetry in a variety of finishes, robust granite countertops, and a breakfast counter. A custom-made free-standing crockery unit ties the two spaces together and adds warmth and character.
The pastel green feature wall is the highlight of the master bedroom. The full-height wood-finish wardrobes add warmth and, along with the mirror, create the illusion of a larger space. The bespoke rounded bedside table and carefully chosen lamps add to the cozy vibe.
The sofa chair by the full height window forms the perfect place to enjoy a piping hot cup of chai on a cold winter morning.
The second bedroom is designed with a more youthful colour scheme for its youngest resident. The matching wall panelling and wardrobe door add a dynamic touch to the space, along with the bespoke headboard in shades of blue.
The study table and accompanying shelving units are an absolute essential as working remotely increasingly becomes the norm for young professionals.
