A young automation company spreading it’s wings in Ahmedabad came to us with an office space to design. Storage was of utmost priority for them, intending to use every corner, while at the same time not compromising on the functionality and aesthetics, As in typical commercial spaces, there was only one window, in this case facing east, which was the only source of daylight, and we were adamant to use daylight in the entire office, thus came the decision to use large glass partitions, which led us to the decision to take a minimalistic approach, to not overdo the design, coupled with a neutral color palette to make the space feel light and airy.

The entrance vestibule, doubling up as a waiting area with a small reception desk was visualized as a warm space, with wooden battens to enhance the sense of transition from the common hallway of the building to a private office, which provided a very effective camouflage for the door towards the pantry.
The conference room at the front doubles up as a display space for their products and systems, catching the eye of any prospective client at the start of the office. The battens fold into the highlight wall of the conference, while the other walls are primarily clear glass partitions in aluminum slimline sections.
The next major challenge was to accommodate 8 engineers, and there wasn’t enough space, so we created space, simply making the common wall of the conference and workspace inclined in the plan, which did not compromise on either of the spaces, at the same time adding grandness and dynamism to the space. The engineer’s workspace is a very functional, pragmatic and a lively space, with ample daylight, with lots of white and some greys, to make the space feel large and open, with exposed electrical conduiting and a large hanging light fixture following the profile of the space. Every possible corner which can be used for storage has been used.
The Director’s cabin posed a unique problem- there was a huge beam running on top, quite literally looming over our heads. This was turned into a design opportunity, arriving at the decision to make the ceiling a focal point, and leaving the floor and furniture minimalistic and functional. Thus came the wooden finish sloping celling and a customized light fixture hanging from it. The wall behind the director was envisaged to create a backdrop, and thus clad in concrete finished curved panels, in line with the simple theme, at the same time adding just enough drama to this space.
