Salon Design – Chitte Architects
Prodigiosity urges distinctiveness. Distorting the rigidity of a geometry, materializing it in a salon is something unusual and notable. In a small space, every inch counts, a 334 sqft premise that gives enough room to move around, which is really important ergonomically. Dark colors absorb the light, making a small livable space; thus the small place making a tempo with the light colored walls which are reflective and make space feel more spacious. Mirrors at the intervals making a room look large and brighter, as it reflects both natural and artificial light to make a room brighter during day and night. From the get-go, it was decided to create an apogee at the pinnacle showcasing the impression of the exposed ceiling patterns popping with bright colour and distorted pattern of light fixtures, drawing eyes upwards from the streets, creating an illusion of height and depth; the furniture molding accordingly with the deformed geometry based ceiling and the wall niches into reception table, storage, sitting, with the stations reclaimed with the edge mirrors, it all follows up the pattern in every function of the Salon. The thematic Spa room, a perfect rejuvenating room with a combination of a masculine color palette with the mood lighting creating a perfect ambience. Henceforth blending the functions and the inner forms, making a public house than just a salon.
A client with less space and more of requirements is always challenging, giving up is not an option, so the team decided to make a smart move, as client satisfaction is the only maxim of the firm. The salon is sited at the level 1 of the building, hence visual linkage between the upper floor and the lower ground floor activities is necessary. The question was, How to make it more appealing from the ground level ? the discussion ended by focusing more on the inner slab that is clearly visible from the ground eye level. Instead of suspending false ceiling, exposed ceiling was taken on call with popping light fixtures running through the length of the ceiling. The exposed ceiling follows a dramatic geometry distortion, clearly visible from the down street, making it noticeable to every passerby. The planning of salon is linear with undeviating and sequential functions from reception table facing the waiting lounge following with the dressing stations and further the spa room.
The patterned ceiling runs all through the internal furniture, storage, table, niches; even the grooves were drawn consciously based on the deformed geometric flow of ceiling.
The robust palette flowing on ceiling and floor has its own purpose, the dark ceiling allows lights to pop out loud till the ground floor streets, whereas the floor to circumvent the grim and dirt. Therefore the ceiling and floor shades contradict and compliment the bright wall and the furniture tinge which in turn contrast the products stacked, making the room more voluminous. The psychological approach is significant for any space design, to an extent the mirrors placed at a distant creating an illusion of palatial space in a minimal room. The inviting spa room is ambient with an area of revitalization having mood lightings with the same patterned niches, storages, and details.
