  • Beyond The Boardroom, Working Ants Designs For How People Connect | The Working Ants

A workspace should do more than function. It should communicate a vision and reflect an organisation’s identity. It should also create an environment that inspires the people who use it. Designed by The Working Ants, this office brings together luxury, functionality, transparency, and contemporary workplace culture. The project treats each space as part of a larger design language. Material choices, lighting, planning, and detailing work together to create a cohesive environment. Together, these elements shape a refined luxury home office for the company.

Beyond The Boardroom, Working Ants Designs For How People Connect | The Working Ants

    Open Workplace Flow

The overall layout prioritises openness and visual connectivity. Strong visual axes and uninterrupted sightlines connect the different workplace zones. This approach creates a sense of openness while meeting each area’s functional requirements. Glass partitions and carefully planned circulation paths maintain visual continuity throughout the office. A clear spatial hierarchy ensures smooth and effortless movement between spaces. The result is a workplace that feels contemporary and sophisticated while remaining practical and efficient for everyday use.

From the moment of arrival, the reception area establishes the design language of the office. The reception serves as a welcoming threshold between the outside world and the workplace. A warm material palette, layered lighting, and refined detailing shape the space. The combination of textures and finishes creates a professional first impression. The space maintains a welcoming atmosphere without appearing overly formal. More than a waiting area, the reception introduces the organisation’s character and sets the tone for the spaces beyond.

    Transparent Office Divisions

The extensive use of glass enclosures throughout the office reinforces the concept of transparency. Rather than creating rigid divisions, the glass partitions establish functional boundaries while preserving visual connections between spaces. This approach allows daylight to travel deeper into the workplace and ensures that enclosed spaces remain visually integrated with the larger office. The transparency also contributes to a sense of openness, encouraging interaction and creating a workplace environment that feels connected rather than compartmentalized.

At the heart of the office lies the open workspace, conceived as a flexible and collaborative environment. Linear workstation clusters organize the floor plate efficiently while maintaining clear circulation pathways and visual connections. The planning allows teams to work independently while remaining part of a larger collective environment. Informal interaction points and recreational elements throughout the workplace further support the balance between individual focus and collaboration.

    Sculptural Ceiling Lighting

Above the workstations, a sculptural lighting installation introduces rhythm and visual interest to the ceiling plane. Rather than treating lighting as purely functional, the installation becomes an architectural element that contributes to the identity of the workspace. Its form and repetition create a visual continuity across the open office while providing a distinct character to the otherwise linear workstation arrangement.

Subtle brand integration appears throughout the workplace through flooring patterns, detailing, material transitions, and carefully considered visual elements. Rather than relying on signage alone, the design embeds the brand identity into the space itself. The ‘H’ motif woven into the carpet pattern, HEFT engraved on the custom door handles, and embroidered into the director tables, and the boardroom stretch ceiling incorporates illuminated HEFT signage, creating a subtle yet immersive brand experience throughout the office. This creates a more sophisticated expression of brand presence, allowing the workspace to communicate identity through its overall experience.

    Relaxed Work Zones

The workplace also incorporates informal and recreational zones to encourage interaction beyond conventional workstations. These spaces provide employees with opportunities to pause, engage, collaborate informally, or simply step away from their desks. By integrating such elements into the overall planning, the office moves beyond the traditional idea of a purely functional corporate environment and becomes a more dynamic ecosystem that supports different modes of working throughout the day further adding to the Home Office feel of the space.

The boardroom serves as one of the office’s most formal spaces, designed for executive meetings and discussions. At its centre is a monolithic meeting table that establishes a strong visual focal point. Above, a carefully articulated stretch ceiling creates a sense of architectural definition, with integrated lighting adding both functionality and atmosphere. The company name is incorporated into the ceiling lighting, transforming branding into an integral part of the spatial experience rather than an applied graphic element.

    Refined Directors’ Cabins

The Directors’ cabins reinterpret conventional notions of hierarchy through a contemporary design vocabulary. Full-height glass partitions provide the required degree of privacy while maintaining a strong visual relationship with the surrounding workspace. The cabins feature a sophisticated material palette with leather-finished worktables embroidered with the brand name, curated shelving, bespoke storage, and personalised display elements. These details introduce a sense of exclusivity and individuality while remaining consistent with the overall design language of the office.

Material selection within the Directors’ cabins has been carefully curated to create an environment that feels premium without becoming visually heavy. Rich textures are balanced against transparent partitions and controlled lighting, allowing the spaces to retain a sense of openness. The result is an executive environment that communicates authority through detailing and proportion rather than through excessive ornamentation.

    Refined Meeting Space

The conference room is designed to accommodate a variety of functions, from formal meetings and presentations to discussions and strategic decision-making. Its controlled material palette, focused lighting, and carefully considered proportions create an environment that feels authoritative and refined while remaining comfortable for extended use.

In contrast to the formal character of the boardroom and executive spaces, the pantry and lounge areas introduce a softer and more relaxed design language. Drawing inspiration from café environments, these spaces incorporate biophilic tones, wood finishes, greenery, upholstered seating, and intimate lighting. The combination creates a warmer atmosphere that encourages employees to step away from the formal workplace and interact in a more informal setting.

The use of natural-looking materials and greenery introduces an element of calm within the otherwise contemporary corporate environment. The pantry and lounge are therefore not treated as secondary utility spaces but as important components of the workplace experience. They provide opportunities for spontaneous conversations, informal meetings, breaks, and social interaction, supporting a more balanced and engaging work culture.

    Layered Lighting Details

Even the restrooms continue the design narrative established throughout the office. Dramatic stone surfaces create a strong material backdrop, while a sculptural vanity becomes the focal point of the space. Subtle gold accents introduce warmth and refinement, complemented by integrated illumination that highlights the materiality and deswign details. Through this approach, even everyday utility spaces are elevated into carefully designed experiences.

Across the office, lighting plays a crucial role in defining atmosphere and hierarchy. Functional illumination is combined with decorative and architectural lighting elements to create layers within each space. From the welcoming glow of the reception to the sculptural lighting above the open workspace and the focused illumination of the boardroom, lighting becomes an integral part of the design rather than an afterthought.

The material palette follows a similarly cohesive approach. Wood, glass, stone, metal, leather, upholstery, and carefully selected finishes are used across different zones, with variations in texture and tone allowing each space to develop its own identity. Despite these variations, the materials remain connected through a consistent contemporary language, ensuring that the office reads as one cohesive environment.

    Purposeful Workplace Design

Ultimately, the project is defined by a balance of contemporary efficiency, refined materiality, transparency, and attention to detail. Each space has been designed to respond to its specific function while contributing to the larger identity of the workplace. The result is an office that feels confident without being imposing, luxurious without being excessive, and contemporary without compromising functionality.

Through thoughtful planning, cohesive materials, integrated branding, considered lighting, and a careful balance between formal and informal spaces, The Working Ants have created a workplace that goes beyond conventional corporate interiors. It is an environment designed around people, movement, interaction, and experience — a connected and purposeful workspace that reflects the ambitions of a growing organization while providing a refined setting for the people who bring those ambitions to life.
