  • Beyond One Aesthetic, Terra Haus In Mumbai Makes Room For Many Identities | Studio Urbn Hues

Studio Urbn Hues designed Terra Haus, a 1,200 sq. ft. residence in Byculla, Mumbai. The home explores a range of possibilities through intentional architectural interventions. Movement, colour and craftsmanship connect the interiors without relying on a single aesthetic or repeated materials. Each space develops its own distinct identity while contributing to the overall design.

Beyond One Aesthetic, Terra Haus In Mumbai Makes Room For Many Identities | Studio Urbn Hues

    The Green Thread

The entrance foyer introduces Terra Haus through a gradual transition rather than a dramatic arrival. Layered arches, sculpted ceilings and green stone inlays establish the home’s architectural language. A carved seating alcove offers a quiet moment of pause. Concealed utilities keep everyday necessities discreet, allowing materiality and craftsmanship to take centre stage.

The home opens into the living and dining areas, where 3″ × 3″ green marble inlays gradually blend into the existing flooring. This creates a subtle transition between the spaces. A full-height green marble feature anchors the dining area. In the living room, a folded terracotta artwork adds a contrasting focal point.

Sculpted ceiling grooves reinforce the sense of movement throughout the interiors. Bespoke furniture blurs the line between function and sculpture, making everyday objects part of the architectural composition.

The Terra Haus kitchen continues this visual dialogue while developing a softer identity. Customised floor tiles reinterpret the foyer’s green marble and blush tones, while muted pink cabinetry, warm timber handles and light stone surfaces create an inviting space that feels connected to the rest of the home rather than isolated from it.

The passage, too, becomes more than a transitional corridor. Green marble inlays merge into the existing flooring, while the sculpted ceiling guides the movement between rooms, extending the home’s architectural language through subtle interventions.

In the powder bathroom, green and white marble return through a more sculptural expression. A bespoke marble bathtub and curved vanity transform the material into architectural form, while alternating marble inlays, brushed gold fittings and concealed storage balance visual richness with restraint.

    The Red Wave

The bedrooms take the Terra Haus’s underlying philosophy in different directions, each developing its own palette and character while remaining part of a larger narrative. A continuous ‘red wave’ flows through the room, becoming its defining architectural gesture.

Designed as a shared bedroom for children and their aunt, the space deliberately moves away from conventional colour associations. Red lends the room a stronger, more grown-up identity, while arched niches, sculpted handles, wall lights and soft curves preserve a sense of playfulness. A concealed magnetic board integrates everyday functionality without interrupting the composition.

Set against a restrained backdrop, the wave brings together the room’s different elements into one continuous visual narrative. Rather than relying on colour alone, the design uses it to connect furniture, storage and architectural details, creating a space that feels playful without becoming overtly juvenile.

    Orange Scallops

If The Red Wave explores playfulness and Powder Pixel reinterprets familiarity, the master bedroom takes a more immersive approach to colour and form Inspired by the feeling of sakura rather than its literal image, the room replaces conventional pinks with warm orange tones suited to a contemporary couple. Curves shape the vaulted ceiling, rounded wall panelling and scalloped furniture, culminating in a sakura mural that anchors the space without overwhelming it.

Herringbone timber flooring introduces warmth and tactility, while restrained blue accents balance the orange palette. Together, these elements create a bedroom that feels expressive yet composed, with the floral reference translated into an atmosphere rather than a literal theme.

The attached bathroom derives its identity from contrast. Terracotta Kit Kat tiles meet crisp white marble, while curved corners soften the straight planes to create functional niches. Positioned at their junction, the mirror accentuates these rounded forms, allowing the architecture itself to define the space.

    Powder Pixel

Designed for the parents, Powder Pixel begins with the familiarity of earthy tones but introduces an unexpected shift through a powder-blue ceiling. Warm browns establish a sense of comfort, while pixelated detailing provides a distinctive visual language across the cornices, geometric headboards, wardrobe shutters, bespoke handles and asymmetrical bedside tables.

The attached bathroom translates this language through a different material palette. Pixel-inspired detailing continues across the customised, site-built basin and flooring, while powder blue takes precedence. A delicate floral mosaic softens the geometry, creating a dialogue between structured patterns and organic forms. Here, the design draws its character from contrast: familiar design meets unexpected colours, and precise geometric details are balanced by softer, more organic elements.

Terra Haus – A Home of Many Identities

Each room is free to develop its own personality, yet every gesture belongs to a larger narrative. Colour is never decorative, curves are never arbitrary, and every handcrafted detail contributes to an atmosphere that feels deeply personal. Cohesion comes not from sameness, but from shared intent.

Ultimately, Terra Haus is less about colour than it is about permission—the permission for homes to hold multiple identities at once. Here, colour, pattern, art and sculptural form coexist without competing, allowing every room to express a different emotion while belonging to the same home.
