Ananta Home Blends Heritage and Modern Living in North Bangalore | Source Architecture
Editor’s Note: Some homes feel complete when every detail has a place, but the most memorable ones go a step further, allowing design to carry stories and emotions. Ananta Home brings contemporary living and cultural heritage together through a thoughtful balance of openness, colour, craft, and art. From the expansive communal spaces to the carefully personalised bedrooms, each part of the home reflects the people who inhabit it while remaining connected through a consistent design language. Traditional elements such as Pichwai art and a Vastu-conscious pooja space sit comfortably alongside modern materials and sculptural forms, creating a home that feels both familiar and contemporary. Ananta ultimately shows how a well-considered home can become more than a beautiful setting, becoming a reflection of the lives, memories, and identities held within it. ~ Yashika Bajaniya
Ananta’s expansive communal space stretches across 30 feet, creating a strong sense of openness and connection. The unfragmented layout allows the living areas to flow seamlessly into one another. A pivoting fluted glass screen at the entrance offers a glimpse into the space while maintaining privacy. Beyond it, the living area unfolds through a considered mix of textures. Rich colours and sculptural forms add depth and character to the interiors. Together, these elements create a dynamic yet cohesive living experience.
The lounge area is a celebration of sculptural beauty and tactile comfort. Custom-made, sinuous sofas and armchairs—designed to accommodate both intimate family moments and large gatherings—anchor the space with their understated luxury. Against a neutral backdrop, bursts of vibrant blues and pinks punctuate the visual composition, further elevated by the refined presence of black accents.
A striking pink onyx marble laminate backs the TV unit, its soft luminosity offset by the rich, traditional allure of a Pichwai artwork—a nod to India’s artistic heritage. Meanwhile, wainscoted walls offer continuity, their subtle detailing bridging the space between past and present.
The dining area unfolds in an effortless extension of the living room, embracing an open-plan ethos. A marble-topped dining table sourced from Magari takescentrer stage, flanked by plush suede chairs that exude both comfort and elegance. Above, a carefully chosen pendant light casts a warm, inviting glow, enhancing the sensory experience of every meal. Adjacent to this convivial setting, a multifunctional storage unit—finished in a sophisticated blend of wood, grey, and gold—incorporates crockery storage, a buffet counter, and a Vastu-compliant pooja corner in the northeast, seamlessly integrating practicality with cultural reverence. At the heart of this space lies an organic mirror from Sage Living, its fluid form breaking the rigidity of structured lines and adding an element of artistic intrigue.
Ananta’s kitchen is a study in both aesthetics and ergonomics. Reimagined in an island configuration, it maximises space while fostering interaction. The ‘handleless’ cabinetry, finished in a warm taupe hue, enhances the kitchen’s sleek, uncluttered appeal. Grey quartz countertops inject a dose of contemporary flair, while profile mechanisms ensure seamless functionality. Designed for both efficiency and elegance, this culinary space is as inviting as it is practical—a place where quick weekday breakfasts and elaborate weekend brunches find their perfect setting.
More than a functional workspace, the home office is conceived as a sanctuary of thought and creativity. A full-length oakwood bookshelf dominates one side, exuding warmth and gravitas, while the opposite wall, adorned with classic wainscoting, lends a sense of understated grandeur. A robust black-stained wood table paired with a Herman Miller chair forms the core of the work zone, ensuring both comfort and efficiency.
Yet, the room is not solely dedicated to productivity. An emerald green sofa bed, positioned beside a sleek media unit, transforms the space into a retreat for relaxation. Overhead, a painting of Varanasi by a local artist injects a soulful dimension, grounding the room in cultural authenticity. This thoughtful curation of elements ensures that the office is not just a place of work, but a space of inspiration.
Each bedroom within Ananta is a world unto itself, echoing the personality of its occupant while maintaining a common thread of contemporary elegance. The master suite is a haven of tranquillity, where muted tones and soft textures craft an ambience of quiet indulgence. An array of thread artworks above the bed draws the eye, adding layers of visual interest.
The upholstered bed, draped in Kosh’s plush fabrics, offers an invitation to unwind, while a whimsical cabinet and a bean-shaped sofa create a cosy corner for reading and repose. The space is completed with a bespoke walk-in wardrobe, rendered in warm oakwood tones that exude timeless sophistication.
The son’s bedroom reinterprets grey in a refreshing manner, proving that the hue need not be synonymous with monotony. The green bed serves as a bold focal point against the soft neutral palette, striking a perfect balance between vibrancy and serenity.
A streamlined study area, featuring floating shelves and a minimalist design, ensures an uncluttered atmosphere conducive to productivity.
The wardrobe, with its centrally embedded oblong shelving, disrupts the monotony of solid blocks, lending the room a sense of lightness and dynamism.
In the daughter’s bedroom, whimsy takes centre stage. A canopy bed draped with soft cotton curtains introduces a dreamy aesthetic, its gentle romance balanced by practical design choices. Sneha Ostawal envisioned this space as one that would evolve with time, ensuring adaptability as its young occupant grows.
Along a single wall, an intelligently integrated study nook, wardrobe, and dresser cater to her functional needs without overwhelming the space. Sage green accents add a touch of playfulness, standing out against the pristine white PU-finished surroundings.
Throughout Ananta, every detail reflects a commitment to craftsmanship and cultural heritage. The residence is not merely a place to inhabit but a story told through textures, materials, and artistry. Executing a project of this scale and detail within a five-month timeline was undeniably ambitious.
Yet, as Sneha Ostawal reflects, it was the synergy between designer and client, the trust placed in creative expertise, and the shared vision for a timeless home that made Ananta an exceptionally fulfilling endeavour. More than just a dwelling, Ananta stands as a living canvas, where every corner tells a story, every element holds meaning, and every space invites one to linge
