This residential project is a celebration of material purity and timeless simple design. Here, the rich, warm tone of natural walnut becomes the unifying element across the entire home. The clients, an elderly couple, envisioned a house where walnut would dominate the interiors. Here, no other colors disrupt the visual harmony. This simple yet demanding brief presented both a challenge and an exciting opportunity for us to create a cohesive, functional, and aesthetically balanced space.

The living room is designed as a spacious, screen-free environment, emphasizing comfort and interaction. Carefully chosen furniture, center tables, and seating arrangements foster relaxation and conversation, highlighting the experiential quality of the space.
The design seamlessly integrates functional zones. Study areas, library units, and foldable study tables use architectural features like arches or column depth to define the space without adding visual clutter.
The central space serves as a connector, linking the mandir, dining area, and crockery unit while maintaining fluidity in circulation.
The design prioritises privacy and visual continuity in the entry foyer. It prevents direct lines of sight into the house and in transitional elements that merge indoor and outdoor spaces.
Functional corners, such as the bar and crockery area opposite the dining zone, further enhance the usability of the home without disrupting the walnut-driven palette.
The guest bedroom continues the language of walnut, ensuring visual continuity while being tailored to the practical needs of visitors.
The daughters’ bedroom, in contrast, introduces vibrant tropical colors to align with their youthful preferences and contemporary trends.
A stepped bed achieves space efficiency, maximizing storage without compromising the room’s airy feel.
The designers selected fabrics, curtains, and bedding to complement the theme, creating a bright, fresh, and lively environment suitable for modern living.
The master bedrooms reflect the personality and lifestyle of the elderly couple, embracing a cozy, comfortable, and inviting ambiance. Natural walnut veneer forms the core material, with every sharp edge carefully finished with a 45° cut to maintain the integrity of the palette.
The designers thoughtfully equip each room with essential furniture, including book storage, a study table, a dresser, and uniquely customized wardrobes, all designed for ease of use and practicality.
Horizontal and vertical grooves are integrated into the furniture, creating a rhythmic visual continuity that ties all elements together while adding subtle depth and refinement. The bedrooms exude warmth and sophistication, offering a serene retreat that balances comfort and elegance.
Executing a home entirely in walnut veneer required meticulous attention to detail and precise craftsmanship. With no other colors to balance the palette, every groove, edge, and furniture junction had to be carefully planned to maintain depth, rhythm, and harmony. The inspiration for this approach draws from Japanese design principles, where wood dominates interiors to create warmth, serenity, and timeless appeal. This project celebrates material honesty, cohesive design language, and the seamless integration of aesthetics with functionality.
Overall, the home is a synthesis of tradition and modernity, simplicity and sophistication, warmth and functionality—a space where the clients’ preferences, lifestyle, and the intrinsic beauty of walnut converge to create an enduring residential experience.
