The concept in mind while designing the space was – Connection to Nature. The brief given by the client just said – make it look warm and earthy. While designing each space, we made sure to use natural materials and finishes in combination with warm tones.
Designed to fulfill the needs of a young couple, this home is planned tastefully with vibrant colours, a rustic study & a simple comforting living room. A home so warm & relaxing- it’s every dweller’s dream! Named “Cinnamon” keeping in mind the essence and warmth the spice brings in.
Warm Tones And Earthy Textures Come Together In This Mumbai Apartment | Interior Displays
The entrance was planned to look vibrant & welcoming- representing the couple’s lively energy. The use of earthy and warm tones is seen throughout the house, beginning with a beautiful shade imperial of green at the door finished in PU. The brick work wall adds to the rustic look as soon as one enters home.
Natural wooden textures, the use of rattan and colours of nature, bring in warmth and poise of the otherwise simple living space. The TV unit is a classic old school pattern made in veneer and an arched molding – used in combination with a rustic grey floral wallpaper.
The sofa luxuriously done in leather adding to the rustic theme and comfort, all at the same time. The walls behind the sofa were also given a molding element to complete the look of the living room.
The dining space was rather simple due to the limited space available. The perfect setup for a family of two- two chairs & a bench which acts as a furniture serving multiple purposes. The bench is a great addition for seating in the living space when hosting guests.
The rattan chairs with a bright yellow fabric and a simple dining table made in all teak, became quite a hero in the living room.
The kitchen was our problem area. Lots of storage requirement, a temporary cylinder space, some open space for décor, appliances and what not! Space- very little. We executed the kitchen with one thing in mind- all these needs should be met, while making the space look neat and uncluttered.
We left an open niche for plants, made space for the cylinder which would later become a set of tandem boxes, put in all the appliances in a tall unit and fit it all.
Smartly planned as the guest or kid’s bedroom in future, here came some colour play. A vibrant green wardrobe with the intricate rattan design and a tropical wallpaper gave the little space its own charm. An extension bed helped create more open space when the room is not in use.
The idea was to have maximum open space while a child uses the room or have enough space to fit in some gym equipment too. The ceiling design in the room was well thought of helping add to some depth in the otherwise easy space.
The master bedroom– an antique classic. The use of veneer was a must for the study and wardrobe finished with a PU polish for both. The evergreen chesterfield pattern added adornment to the master bedroom and the subtle wallpaper behind the bed added its own charm.
The study was highlighted using some profile lighting and fluted glass which gave a modern touch to the rustic bedroom design.
We also used light wooden flooring to complement the veneer used in other units in the room. The warm tones again, natural earth tones, all through the room, with curtains adding flow and light in the best way possible.
Our favorite space in the house- the study with its rustic look gave a sense of comfort, while at work and the unit behind boasted of the couple’s personal interests. Reading, travel, gaming, etc. all found their way in the open niche designed specifically for this purpose. Not to miss – the temple quietly added to the tranquility and calm of the space.
Passages are generally not well thought out while doing homes, or rather, they don’t need much thinking. In this passage, we had two unusual niche spaces, which meant wastage of space. We put highlighter wall tiles and used one niche area outside the common bathroom as a common wash basin with gold accents to add to the aesthetic. The niche outside the kitchen served 2 purposes – the lower section was made deeper and became a washing machine space, the platform was finished in spotted granite and acted as the coffee station, while the section above became a small unit for bar utility.
The design style used is modern rustic – using straight and bold lines and minimal design elements, with organic natural materials like leather, veneer, rattan, etc. and warm tones to add to the elegance and beauty of the otherwise simple home.
During our initial site visits, we noticed that the space didn’t receive a lot of sunlight which made us use light and sheer fabrics for curtains to make complete use of the natural light available and at the same time also give privacy to the client when relaxing at home.
