  • This Home Extension Design Focuses on Creating A Personal Sanctuary | Build TLA

The client, an architect with a keen eye for diverse flavors and moods, in this home extension design, envisioned creating a personal sanctuary. This 1BHK extension to an existing 3BHK apartment reflects their unique style. Rather than adding an additional kitchen, they opted to convert the space into a walk-in wardrobe with a small pantry, ideal for hosting parties. The architect aimed to transform their home into a haven of dark and deep hues, complemented by intricate patterns, with a particular emphasis on blacks.

    Living Room

The living room is highlighted by various features like black and white strips PU finish on the TV console. The sheer simplicity of pattern doesn’t show the grave amount of labor skill required to form the diagonal pattern on the console.

The TV unit shelves are for memories from the shopping spree of the couple along the backdrop of the curved wooden logs finished in black glossy PU. The formation on its own has a sense of character for the TV unit even without the shopping spree buyouts.

    Design Details

One of the smaller things is simply the selection of black crocodile finish marble for an extended window frame of the living room for seating. The finish in itself has an extensive pattern in dark hues and the texture feel of it while seating is just satisfying.

The designers specifically designed and crafted the ceiling lights to fit the mood of the space. They customized the fixtures to avoid using a false ceiling while still providing overhead lighting without visible ceiling wires. Adding a touch of industrial look to the overall space.

An exaggerated curve of the passage to the other areas softens the wall edges and gets amplified with the light pattern when turned on.

Lastly, after all the visual details the most important aspect of the living room is the sofa which is an ultra comfortable & cushy couch to hang around and rest with your legs up on the long center table whenever needed.

    Bedroom

A compact bedroom with a bed in houndstooth fabric and edges rounded and forming a floating bed so the feet don’t hit the bed while walking around. The team placed the study table, decorated with figurines of various characters and books, on black-stained veneer, and cleverly concealed the AC unit within the meshwork. Again the same black crocodile marble forms the seating space along the window.

The headboard is a refurbished headboard from a vintage market to give an old world charm to the bedroom. Effectively, the side tables were sourced in the same language and matched the mood of the space seamlessly.

The overall space has a dark walnut floor as a background to all elements of the space and light gray washed walls and doors frame rounded.

    Walk-in Wardrobe

The walk-in wardrobe unfolds in a charismatic blue, creating a striking backdrop for the exclusive shoe collection displayed within. A compact coffee machine nestles into a niche just outside, where fluted glass inserts subtly break the boldness of the blue, adding texture and contrast.

    Washroom Design

The master washroom in contrast with the overall apartment has a clean white with green Spanish glossy tiles highlighting the shower zone, don’t miss the stark green glove and champagne gold glossy fittings.
