Inspired by the architecture of Bali, this bar and restaurant design crafts a serene destination to escape to. Imagine walking down one of the busiest streets in Bangalore, with the ever-present crowds, traffic and pollution constantly overwhelming your senses. In such an intense context, slowing down seems nearly impossible. It is in moments like these that you can’t help but dream of a getaway.
Liquids Bar and Kitchen is a perfect antidote to this longing. With its Bali – inspired theme, this 3200 sq. ft. space, located on the bustling BEL Road in Bengaluru offers an oasis of calm. Whether you’re looking to unwind after a long day of work or just to relax and let go, this place invites you to slow down and recharge. Designed by AD Studio9, the interiors reflect the tropical charm of Bali, with traces of its spiritual essence – felt in the earthy textures, warm ambient lighting, and authentic details that shape a grounding, tranquil, and deeply immersive atmosphere. “We sourced every detail. From the lighting to the furniture to the decor – directly from the island during a work trip. Further, ensuring it’s real spirit is captured here,” shares Apoorva Lekha, principal architect of the studio.

This Bar and Restaurant Design Takes its Inspiration from Bali | AD Studio9
As one steps into this oasis, the city fades away in the distance. A double height volume, filled with light, soft breeze and natural textures greets the users upon arrival. Above, a striking straw roof stretches across the space, its warmth and texture complementing the handcrafted bamboo light fixtures suspended below, casting a soft, ambient glow. The bar counter takes center stage here. A stone panel stands in full glory behind this table, showcasing the intricate hand carvings of Balinese artists. “We had the most fun designing this space,” shares Apoorva, “as the client and I worked closely with local artisans during our work trip to Bali to develop the carvings, ensuring they embodied the essence we envisioned before being transported to Bangalore and carefully installed on-site.”
The carvings, inspired by the Ramayana, are localized with regional elements. A closer look reveals beautiful details – scenic landscape, traditional architectural features and other cultural elements. Adding to this authenticity, the team adorned the space with sculptures sourced exclusively from the island. Further, finely carved wood and stone pieces, along with serene water features that reflect its spiritual and artistic traditions. Bringing these elements to Bangalore, however, came with its challenges. Transporting and installing the massive stone sculptures demanded immense effort, but the team committed fully to staying true to the vision.
To one side of the bar, large arched windows with terracotta jali elements bring in glimpses of the outside world. On the other side, a staircase gently ascends onto the second of three levels. Across all these levels, the material palette maintains a constant tropical essence, using organic materials like wood, cane, straw, and bamboo to feel like a natural extension of the outdoors.
Maximizing seating within the compact space was a challenge, which led to the idea of incorporating multiple levels. This thoughtful approach not only increased capacity but also enhanced the spatial experience, offering varied vantage points and interactions throughout the restaurant. Even in the finer details, the design stays true to its inspiration – the upholstery echoes traditional island motifs. The designers ground the color palette in neutral tones to create a calm backdrop, while they add depth and vibrancy through warm earthy accents like terracotta, greens, and browns.
A wood and straw ceiling highlights the second level, as the designers echo the island’s traditional materials and envelop the entire floor in a warm, inviting atmosphere. Overlooking the double-height area below, it creates a sense of openness and seamless connection throughout the volume. “This design style is all about balance, harmony, and a seamless blend of indoor and outdoor spaces. The goal was to create an environment that feels both tranquil and thought-provoking – one that fosters a connection with nature while subtly echoing a sense of the divine,” says Apoorva.
As visitors move through the restaurant, authentic Indonesian art and sculptures emerge at every turn, adding depth and mystique to the overall spatial quality. Complementing this immersive setting, the menu brings together Indian and Asian flavors, extending the experience beyond design. The uppermost level, a terrace, enjoys an abundance of natural light and sweeping vistas, making it the perfect spot to soak in the ambience.
As the journey through Liquids Bar and Kitchen unfolds, every corner reveals a deep rooted connection to Bali. The interplay of natural textures, the soft glow of handcrafted lights, and the quiet presence of greenery create a setting where time slows down. The space invites you to linger – it’s an escape from the city’s relentless pace. Here, every detail comes together to transport you, if only for a while, to a world of warmth, craft, and tranquility.
