Delving into a core memory of monsoon showers is the Pluvian Cafe in Pune, where the founders, both pluviophiles, have created a relaxing interior design for cafe that lets you enjoy the weather without the pressure of ordering something or leaving once done. Located in the urban locality of Kothrud in Pune, Pluvian finds a quiet spot for itself in a 950 sq. ft. space tucked in the ground floor corner of a building that finds itself amid a lush green line of planted trees.
Editor’s Note: “This 950 sq. ft. cafe in Pune is a haven for all pluviophiles who adore the monsoon charm. With its earthy Kota stone flooring, terracotta tiles, and luxuriant greens, it celebrates nature and comfort. In biophilic interiors, cane weaves, and soft lighting, together with wooden furniture, has enhanced it while continental breakfasts, fresh bakes, and artisanal coffee elevate the experience.” ~ Anusha Sridhar
This Interior Design For Cafe Has Tranquil Monsoon-Inspired Ambience | Think
The goal was simple and heartfelt: to create a space where anyone could stop by for a morning coffee, have a meeting, or enjoy a cosy breakfast. The vision comes to life inside the cafe, where comfort and a homely vibe take centre stage.
As the clients put it, “We wanted a place that feels warm and inviting. Great food paired with a welcoming atmosphere, especially when it comes to coffee and desserts, is a rare find. We wanted to bring the best of both under one roof, so people would keep coming back.”
The young, creative team at THINK gave the design lead to Ar. Dhwani Mehta and Id. Harshal Gandhi (partners in the THINK team) brought the idea to life with a fresh, vibrant touch. Inspired by ‘the song of rain,’ every detail in the space reflects the beauty of nature, capturing the Earth’s calming rhythm and evoking a sense of stability and wonder.
Perfectly suited to Pune’s monsoon, the cafe features a small but impactful outdoor section for true rain lovers who savour every aspect of the season—the soothing petrichor, the rustling leaves, and the romance of the rain. This space begins the journey of translating the rain’s melody into ambiance.
The Kota stone flooring invites you to feel the coolness of rainwater—perfect for those who might even enjoy it barefoot. Hanging plants from the ceiling echo the trees outside, while earthy terracotta tiles add a raw, natural touch, shielding the area from the bustle of the world. A full-length glass partition separates the outdoor and indoor areas, beautifully framing the view for those who prefer sitting inside but don’t want to miss the drizzle.
The inside sits in tune with the rain—ample space to move around and let your thoughts breathe—the right side is designed for high chairs that provide the patrons with entertaining views of the rains and greens, whereas on the left are the easy and laid back chairs that allow lounging to the heart’s comfort.
The furniture, made from indigenous wood, brings a natural, calming feel that enhances the biophilic theme, with cane weaves adding subtle highlights throughout. Soft yellow lighting creates a cosy, home-like atmosphere, while gold brass accents shine against beige textured walls. The wooden flooring complements the greenery and planters, further enhancing the sense of being close to nature.
The cafe stays connected to nature with its lively, open kitchen, allowing patrons to fully experience their food and coffee. A wooden partition, which doubles as a serving counter, offers a full view of the kitchen.
The menu features a continental breakfast with an Indian twist, with chef-recommended dishes like the Pesto Sauce Sandwich, Chocolate Babka French Toast, Spicy Chicken Omelette, and The Last Avocado Toast.
You’ll also find a selection of cheesecakes and freshly brewed coffee by Aeka’s coffee, with highlights like their hot chocolate, cold brews, and Mandarin Mocha Bliss. Fresh breads and bakery items are available for those seeking more reasons to visit Pluvian daily!
