Hyderabad, known for its rich cultural heritage and culinary diversity, recently welcomed back an iconic dining destination—Tansen. Originally a beloved culinary landmark for over 15 years, Tansen has been reimagined into a modern masterpiece by Anirudh Osuri of The Design Epicenter. With its reopening, Tansen’s modern restaurant interior design has not just reclaimed its place in Hyderabad’s food and beverage scene but has elevated itself as an architectural and experiential marvel.
Editor’s Note: “The Design Epicenter redesigns ‘Tansen’ in Hyderabad with Mughal interiors coupled with contemporary charm. The ornate detailing, aesthetic water features, and an exclusive material palette depict a tale by itself reflecting the design intent. This renovation represents a new dimension of experiential design that breaks conventional philosophies while breathing a lively ambiance.” ~ Anusha Sridhar
This Modern Restaurant Interior Design Becomes A Culinary Landmark | The Design Epicenter
Tansen represents a significant moment of transformation in Anirudh’s design journey. This project goes beyond conventional parameters to embrace a ‘disruptive’ design philosophy, redefining space not just as a structural entity but as a living, breathing environment.
Guided by the essence of Mughal architecture, Osuri and his team sought to create a space where history and modernity coexist seamlessly.
The inspiration came from the grandeur and symmetry of Mughal gardens—spaces known for their intricate planning and serene beauty. Tansen’s design invites guests into an immersive experience where opulence meets tranquility. Thus, offering a fresh perspective on fine dining.
One of the standout features of Tansen’s design is its vast and expansive volumes. High ceilings and wide walls create an unparalleled sense of grandeur reminiscent of royal Mughal courts. The openness of the space amplifies the feeling of luxury, allowing guests to feel both awed and welcomed.
A central motif of the design is the seamless integration of water. It is inspired by the Mughal gardens’ reverence for this life-giving element. A gracefully flowing water body meanders through the restaurant, transforming the ambiance into a tranquil, almost meditative environment.
The reflective surfaces of the water interact with light, casting playful reflections. Moreover, it adds a sensory depth to the dining experience. Furthermore, the soothing sounds of cascading water enhance the immersive quality, inviting guests to pause and savour each moment.
Drawing heavily from Mughal artistry, Tansen features intricate patterns and calligraphy that unify the space. These motifs, scaled and repeated thoughtfully, create layers of visual intrigue. Gold inlays of calligraphy bridge the rich narrative of the Mughal empire with contemporary design, adding a touch of timeless elegance.
Materials play a pivotal role in Tansen’s design, blending traditional techniques with modern sensibilities. Lime plaster walls evoke a sense of history, while vibrant stained glass partitions add color and texture.
Marble inlay work, a signature of Mughal design, is seamlessly integrated into flooring and surfaces. Thus, marrying traditional craftsmanship with modern precision. This thoughtful material palette reinforces the space’s narrative of balancing history with contemporary aesthetics.
The success of Tansen’s design is a testament to collaboration. Working closely with the client, Mr. Amar Ohri, and industry experts, Anirudh’s team meticulously balanced tradition and innovation.
As a result, the space feels both regal and inviting. However, it’s a dining destination that celebrates life’s milestones with grandeur and grace.
Tansen’s reopening has been met with widespread acclaim. It stands as a proud testament to the transformative power of thoughtful design. Moreover, every detail contributes to a cohesive narrative. In its rebirth, Tansen has not only reclaimed its iconic status but has set a new benchmark for experiential dining in Hyderabad.
